TODAY: FOREST GREEN ROVERS

Altrincham entertain Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday night, having lost to now second-placed Carlisle United last Saturday. It gets even tougher now as their midweek opponents are the only team above the Cumbrians in the league table.

Last Saturday, aided by the postponement of Rochdale's game, FGR went to the top after winning 2-0 at Woking.

Along with Scunthorpe United, FGR remain unbeaten this season having won seven times and drawn the other three matches in their ten fixtures.

To Alty fans, FGR's best-known players are ex-Chorley man Harry Cardwell and former AFC Fylde forward Nick Haughton, though both remained on the bench at the weekend.

The FGR squad on Saturday comprised: 1. Luke McNicholas, 11. Tom Knowles, 32. Abraham Kanu, 5. Ryan Inniss, 21. Tre Pemberton, 25. Harry Whitwell, 6. Laurent Mendy, 7. Kyle McAllister (c), 18. Isaac Moore, 14. Jayden Clarke, 29. Kairo Mitchell. Subs: 26. James Balagizi, 23. Harry Cardwell, 8. Nick Haughton, 3. Neil Kengni, 15. Jordan Moore-Taylor, 12. Fiachra Pagel (gk), 27. A. Walker

Amongst others at FGR who have faced Alty previously are former Aldershot and Woking man Cian Harries and Christian Doidge who has scored against Alty for FGR previously.

In their preview, Forest Green Rovers state "Rovers extended their unbeaten start in the league to 10 games on Saturday after a convincing 2-0 victory over Woking...

Altrincham have made a respectable start to their National League campaign, picking up 12 points from their opening 10 games... In the 2023/24 season, Altrincham achieved the club’s highest ever league position, finishing fourth and were defeated by Bromley in the Play Off semi-finals". [Altrincham have actually twice won the top flight of non-League which FGR have never done].

"Player To Watch: Jimmy Knowles [left, who] joined Altrincham in the Summer from League Two side Accrington Stanley. Knowles spent the second half of last season on loan at former club Boston United, where he scored four goals in 18 appearances.

The 23-year-old has made an impressive start to this campaign, finding the back of the net on five occasions and assisting twice in his opening 10 league games.

The forward has scored in his last three games and is currently the joint fifth top goal-scorer in the division. A player in a great run of form, Rovers will have to keep a close eye on Knowles in and around the box.

Rovers are unbeaten in their last seven fixtures against the Robins".

ALTY Q AND A

Altrincham FC announces that "Three members of the Altrincham FC board will be live on Radio Alty on Monday 29th September, from 12pm to 2pm, to take questions directly from supporters.

Chairman Mark Luby (left), along with fellow board members Sam Mackenzie and John Coyne, will be in the studio for an open discussion covering all aspects of the club. No topic is off the table, and fans are encouraged to get involved.

Speaking ahead of the appearance, Mark Luby said, 'We have two very important games coming up, both from a footballing and operational perspective.

After this we have a gap before our next home game. Having the three of us together on the radio will give our fans the opportunity to ask any questions they have across all areas of the club.'

Supporters can send their questions in advance by e-mail.

For those unable to tune in live, we’ll publish a summary of the discussion and answers later in the week on altrinchamfc.com.

This radio session follows requests for a dedicated supporter event, and with the relentless nature of the National League schedule and significant work behind the scenes, the board’s first opportunity to connect in depth with fans comes via this live broadcast".

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan writes that on Monday, in League Two, following his successful loan at Altrincham last season, CHARLIE OLSON would have expected to progress his career when Blackburn Rovers loaned him a division higher this time to Oldham Athletic for the season.

The reality has so far been very different. Charlie's only contribution has been a full shift in Latics' 1-5 home defeat by Manchester City U21 in the EFL Trophy. In League fixtures he had, until Saturday, been an unused substitute - but at Cheltenham he wasn't in the squad at all. Blackburn should be asking questions, since the purpose of these loans is to aid a young player's development - and Oldham don't even have a U21 team.

Irish Premier Division : Having only managed 18 minutes off the bench in St.Patrick's last 3 games, BARRY BAGGLEY returned to the starting XI in tonight's home game against bottom club Cork City, and played the whole of their 4-0 win - their biggest in the league this season.

NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

The BBC reports that "Truro City manager John Askey said his players have got to battle to maintain their National League status after another disappointing result.

The Tinners... were beaten 4-0 at National League North play-off winners Scunthorpe United. The loss dropped Truro - who have now lost eight of their 10 games - to the bottom of the table.

'We've got to really fight now to maintain our status in this league for the supporters, and I don't think that was good enough,' Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall after the defeat. "For the people who made the journey today, I think we've got put up more of an effort. Some individuals do, but I thought one or two let themselves down today."

Askey's side failed to score for a third successive match and have only found the net in three games - their tally of six goals this season is the worst in the division...

He said, 'We've got to do better, putting it mildly. All over the park, I just didn't think we were at it'".

Their opponents last Saturday, unbeaten Scunthorpe United "confirm Chief Executive Officer Matt Roberts has made the decision to step down from his role for family reasons, and to pursue other professional opportunities.

Joining in November 2024, Matt has headed the team behind the scenes which has seen progression since he arrived at the club...[He] will formally leave his post at the end of September...

Matt said 'I joined the club last year with a brief to help create a pathway towards sustainability and I am very proud of what we have achieved together over an intense period since. During this time we have overhauled club operations, from retail and ticketing to HR and financial control. We have made key appointments in stadium operations, events and hospitality, and implemented processes that can now serve as the foundation of future progress.

'In the middle of all of that, we achieved promotion back to the National League and built a team that is already proving more than competitive at this level'...

Chair and co-owner Michelle Harness said 'Matt’s tenure at the club has seen us continue on a positive trajectory'".

Southend United "have been recognised among the nation’s top-performing clubs in the annual Fair Game Index.

The club ranked second in the National League and 22nd out of 164 clubs overall... The Index is the most comprehensive analysis of men’s professional football in England, covering clubs across the top seven divisions. It measures performance against eight key criteria: Financial Sustainability, Governance, Transparency, Fan Engagement, Ethics, Diversity, Environment, and Community Engagement.

The club’s strongest performances came in finance, fan engagement and transparency, which ranked among the very best in the National League...

Chairman Justin Rees welcomed the positive findings in the club’s summary report saying... 'Given our recent history, our supporters know that how we run the club off the pitch directly affects success on it. With the support of our governance partner Indigo, and by working closely with our Fan Advisory Board and the Shrimpers Trust, we remain committed to the highest standards of governance@".

The Fair Game Index was compiled using more than 22,000 data points, providing the clearest picture yet of how “regulator ready” football clubs are, as the game prepares for the introduction of an independent football regulator. The recruitment continues at Morecambe where a 33rd player has arrived with "the signing of experienced winger, Rolando Aarons. Jamaican International, Aarons brings a wealth of experience to the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, having come through the ranks at Newcastle United, where he made his Premier League debut in 2014.

Aarons went on to represent the Magpies... before enjoying loan spells at the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Wycombe Wanderers and Motherwell...

Head Coach Ashvir said 'I'm delighted that Rolando has chosen to join us, he's a winger who we identified early on and we're pleased we managed to get it done as there was a lot of competition for his signature...

'He's very experienced, playing in the Premiership, Championship and Seria A'".

MARK HUGHES'S ALTY VIEW

Following his side's win at Altrincham on Saturday, Carlisle United Head Coach, Mark Hughes, said "I think everybody saw what we're up against, up against a good team, elements, sending's [sic] off, so to come through all that, that's a really pleasing performance from my point of view".

Left: Mark Hughes pictured at Moss Lane on Saturday.

"On Cameron Harper’s second-half sending off, he said 'It's a nothing challenge, it's a challenge that happens 20, 30 times in the game, it's just coming together, not every foul is a free kick even, and certainly not every foul is a booking, but it seemed like at one point it was...

'The second goal is what we expect at the moment from Regan (Linney), it was a fantastic strike and I felt certainly the majority of the game we're in good control, we came out for the second half in good control again and then it's a little bit back to the ball [sic], but in saying that, they never really created a mountain of chances, three or four maybe balls across the box that we dealt with and had to deal with'".

On Regan Linney, he continued "I thought initially they were trying to rile him a little bit, and I thought he showed good control, just got on with hurting the opposition like we know he can by scoring goals, and that's what his focus was.

"He didn't get involved in too much in terms of the crowd or their players, his ex-team is trying to get him booked or whatever, he just got on with it and got his reward with a fantastic goal again...

"Four wins on the belt, I'm not quite sure when the last time Carlisle team did that, so we're in good shape", he concluded.

SEVEN MANAGERS GONE

No sooner had a sixth Enterprise National League manager been sacked, as the season reached only its tenth matchday on Saturday, but the resignation of a seventh manager was revealed less than 48 hours later.

It was Yeovil Town who confirmed "that Danny Webb has resigned from his position as First Team Manager due to personal and family reasons.

Above: The six clubs who have lost seven managers this season.

He has expressed his personal sadness in having to leave the club but feels this is the right decision for him and his family. The time and the nature of this decision is met with disappointment from all of us and we have accepted his resignation with regret, but with understanding.

We understand this news is disappointing, especially after the thorough recruitment process which brought Danny to the club. While we respect his need to put his family first, our priority now has to be the team’s stability and success.

Richard Dryden will take charge of the First Team for the rest of the season. He will be given the necessary resources to keep the squad competitive on the pitch through an increased budget".

Footnote: Dryden oversaw two wins in three games whilst he was interim manager following the sacking of Mark Cooper in August.

As for the six sackings, one of which was at Yeovil, the latest victim was named at Eastleigh whose terse statement on Saturday "confirm[ed] that we have terminated the contract of First Team Manager Kelvin Davis and assistant manager Danny Butterfield with immediate effect.

We would like to thank Kelvin and Danny for their commitment and efforts during their tenure at the club and we wish them both all the best for the future".

And that was that.

Davis follows Steve Morison who was sacked by Sutton United in midweek and four other managers who had been shown the door earlier this season.

First to go was Derek Adams at Morecambe on 18 August, followed by Yeovil Town's Mark Cooper (26th August), York City's Adam Hinshelwood (28th August) and Solihull Moors boss Matt Taylor (3 September).

So in under five weeks since Adams was sacked, a total of six managers (including him) have been relieved of their duties.

Footnote: Davis lost his job with Eastleigh lying sixteenth in the league but with a game in hand on many clubs. If they had played and won that game in hand, they would be lying twelfth currently.

ALTY THROUGH THE YEARS: 23 September

Altrincham welcome league leaders Forest Green Rovers to the J. Davidson Stadium on Tuesday.

The Through the Years data of Howard Watts and Mike Garnett for next Tuesday's date, 23 September, reveal that it will be only two years since Alty last played on that date.

On that occasion they beat Ebbsfleet United 6-1 at the JDS.

Ebbsfleet, without their leading scorer Poleon, had no answer to a scintillating first-half display from an Altrincham side lacking half a dozen injured players.

Alty took a fifth-minute lead when debutant loanee Alex Newby headed in at the back post from a Conn-Clarke cross.

It was 2-0 after 16 minutes when centre-back Lewis Baines netted a superb glancing header as he ran to the near post to meet a corner by Eddy Jones.

Justin Donawa made it 3-0 with a fine low finish into the bottom corner in the 32nd minute.

Above: Justin Donawa is congratulated on his goal by Justin Amaluzor, Elliot Osborne, Dior Angus and Isaac Marriott.

Ebbsfleet pulled a goal back in the 41st minute when a chipped ball forward was nodded in past a wrong-footed Ross by Odokonyero.

But Conn-Clarke's cool finish in the 45th minute made the half time score 4-1.

The second half was largely an anti-climax in which the visitors had the lion's share of the ball and territory but they spurned a great chance in the 81st minute when Ross saved a penalty awarded against substitute Lewis Banks for a foul.

Alty's on-loan keeper from Stockport County had therefore saved three penalties since joining the club.

However, in the seven minutes decreed for added time, Altrincham scored twice more.

The fifth goal was a thing of beauty as Alty broke forward and Marriott's clever back heel allowed Eddy Jones to advance up the left. His cross, via Angus, came to Conn-Clarke who netted his second goal of the afternoon (90+2 mins).

And the icing on the cake was a sixth goal for the Robins in the 95th minute when another excellent header from Baines flew past Cousins in the Fleet's net.

After the match Phil Parkinson told Alty TV he was "devastated" to have conceded at the end and therefore only draw the match, adding that FGR "have got away with one there".

ALTRINCHAM 1-2 CARLISLE UNITED

Match report here

Right: Kahrel Reddin was again Alty's Man of the Match against Carlisle United, a match played on a very wet Saturday afternoon.

POST-MATCH PARKY

Phil Parkinson felt that Altrincham were the better side despite the outcome of the game against Carlisle United on Saturday.

This and his other observations on the match from the Altrincham boss can be seen and heard in the post-match interview on Alty TV

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports on Saturday's action.

League One : ALI SMITH was booked, but AFC Wimbledon came from behind at Doncaster Rovers to win 1-2.

Peterborough United had already scored the only goal of the game at Plymouth Argyle when the hosts withdrew OWEN DALE after 64 minutes.

CARL PIERGIANNI captained Stevenage to a 2-1 home win against Exeter City.

League Two : TOBY MULLARKEY displaced HARRISON HOLGATE from Fleetwood Town's starting lineup, and played the whole game as they lost 2-1 at Cambridge United.

JUSTIN AMALUZOR played the whole game for Grimsby Town, who managed only one shot on target in a 3-0 defeat at Barnet.

ELLIOT NEWBY was another to put in a full shift, but with happier results as Barrow saw off visitors Crewe Alexandra 1-0.

Chesterfield led 1-2 at Bromley when the hosts brought on MARCUS DINANGA. The game ended 2-2. JAMES BERRY came off Chesterfield's bench in the 83rd minute to get his first game time of the season.

Still without the injured REAGAN OGLE, Oldham Athletic were already two goals up at Cheltenham Town when the hosts brought JAKE BICKERSTAFF off the bench in the 79th minute. However Latics went on to win 0-3.

JOEL SENIOR watched from the bench as Bristol Rovers earned a 1-1 draw at Colchester United - and so did SONNY ALJOFREE as his Notts County colleagues wiped out visitors Crawley Town 4-0.

Tranmere Rovers already trailed 3-1 at Walsall when CONNOR JENNINGS joined the game after 78 minutes, but, although they managed to pull a goal back, they lost 4-2.

National League : JUSTIN DONAWA played the first 65 minutes of Brackley Town's 1-0 home win over Sutton United.

CONNOR TEALE and former trialist ZAK MILLS laboured in vain for Boston United as visitors Boreham Wood scored twice without reply - JEFF KING played the first 76 minutes for Wood.

After missing the last three matches through injury, JOSH LUNDSTRAM was thrown on after only 26 minutes with his Eastleigh side a goal up, but there was little cause for celebration on his return as visitors Braintree Town turned things round to win 1-3.

Now having more than 30 players to choose from, Morecambe omitted JOE NUTTALL as they won 4-3 at home against Wealdstone.

Two former Robins central defenders faced each other at The Lamb, and KENNEDY DIGIE was the happier at full time, scoring the only goal against Yeovil Town, who had KYLE FERGUSON in their side.

In the shock result of the day, York City lost at home to Solihull Moors, who scored with their only goal attempt of the game. ALEX NEWBY played the full game for York, while TYRESE SINCLAIR, having been booked, was withdrawn after 63 minutes.

National North : Although RYAN COLCLOUGH netted twice, it was to no avail as AFC Fylde frustratingly had their home game against Leamington abandoned when they were 4-0 up.

CALEB ANSEN had a busy afternoon as he continued his loan at Bedford Town with a 0-3 home defeat by Spennymoor.

After Rio Clegg scored a hat trick in the space of 7 minutes, JORDAN HULME rounded off the scoring for Radcliffe, who romped home 0-5 at Merthyr Town.

FA Trophy Qualifying Round : It was a disappointing day for AIDY ROXBURGH and BYRON HARRISON as Nantwich Town lost 3-0 at Silsden.

Witton Albion also exited the competition, going down by a single goal at home to Dunston UTS. Both JOEL BEMBO-LETA and JAMES LAWRIE were on their bench.

NPL Division 1 Midlands : Although ANDY DALES put Mickleover ahead for the second time in the game, they eventually lost 4-2 at Wellingborough Town. Back in 2023 they hosted Ebbsfleet United, defeating them by six goals to one.

NPL Division 1 West : MARK LEES captained Mossley to a 4-0 home win over Sporting Khalsa. Three of the goals came after the 85th minute, with MASON FAWNS claiming one of them.

There was a clean sheet for TONY THOMPSON at Newcastle Town, where Bootle won 0-2 despite the absence of TOM HANNIGAN.

Trafford's woeful start to the season continued as they lost their 6th consecutive game, Chasetown winning 1-3 at Shawe View. SEAN HIGGINS was withdrawn after 54 minutes, while JEROME WRIGHT wasn't in the matchday squad.

FA Vase : JOHN JOHNSTON scored Irlam's clincher as they saw off visitors Bacup Borough 2-0.

LINNEY "GLAD WE DELIVERED"

Speaking after his goal against Altrincham on Saturday, Regan Linney spoke to Carlisle United TV saying, “To score a goal like that, especially here, was a great feeling...

"I’m confident coming into any game, but yeah — this one meant a bit more. I probably overreacted a bit when I scored, sorry for that, but I’d been getting a bit of stick and I wanted to let it out...

"That’s one of our best performances of the season, I think...

“Personally, I really wanted to win today. That added something to it — and I’m glad we delivered.”

NEXT: FOREST GREEN ROVERS

On Tuesday, Robbie Savage's Forest Green Rovers visit the J. Davidson Stadium.

Last season FGR drew 1-1 in the corresponding fixture, played in January 2025.

For the second time that season Forest Green Rovers caused heartbreak to Altrincham supporters with an added-time goal.

They had won the reverse fixture with a 95th minute goal and they retrieved a point here with a scrappy 94th minute equaliser poked in by substitute Christian Doidge.

Earlier Altrincham had gone ahead through a Joe Nuttall effort after only eleven minutes and they deservedly held the lead before late pressure from the visitors paid off.

ALTRINCHAM 1-2 CARLISLE UNITED

In a feisty encounter in which both teams ended with ten men and which was played in, at times, torrential rain, Altrincham gave their ex-EFL opponents a hard-fought afternoon.

Alty were disappointed to fall behind as early as the ninth minute when Wearne's cross from the left was headed home, it seemed by Kelly, but it was later ruled that it was an own goal off Lewis Banks.

The Robins deservedly levelled, in the nineteenth minute, albeit from the penalty spot, after Banks had been fouled in an aerial duel by Kelly. Knowles converted the spot kick.

A belligerent Mark Hughes was deservedly booked soon afterwards, following a cynical foul on Reddin by Thomas which might have been a red for the offender but for which he was only shown a yellow.

Inevitably, the decisive goal had to be scored by former Altrincham striker Regan Linney who was allowed to drift towards the centre of the pitch from where he planted an impressive shot past Hutchinson (36 mins).

However, a celebrating Linney then indulged in some arrogant posing for the camera right in front of the Golf Road end which did nothing to enhance his reputation with his former supporters.

Although Altrincham had a man advantage from the 54th minute when the hapless left-back Harper picked up his second yellow for yet another foul on man of the match Reddin, they were unable to convert it into an equaliser.

With the game deep into an added seven minutes, Tom Crawford was shown a second yellow for a foul in the centre of the pitch.

TODAY: CARLISLE UNITED

Before today's visit to the J. Davidson Stadium, Carlisle United identified the "Opposition Player to Watch".

They concluded that this was "Jimmy Knowles [pictured right, who] has been the standout attacking threat for Altrincham in the opening months of the season.

With four goals and two assists already to his name, the former Mansfield Town striker has settled quickly into life at Alty, offering pace, intelligent movement, and a real eye for goal.

Operating both centrally and from wide areas, Knowles has developed a growing partnership with Altrincham’s midfield creators and will be looking to add to his tally in front of a home crowd.

His ability to stretch defences and exploit space in behind will be something United’s back line will need to be alert to throughout Saturday’s contest".

NEW ALTY SHOP

Following the closure of the town centre shop, Altrincham FC reveals that "Alty's retail operation will have a brand new home from this weekend as our all-new merchandise space opens its doors inside The J.Davidson Stadium.

The grand reveal takes place at 1:30pm on Saturday afternoon ahead of Carlisle United's visit to Moss Lane, with Chairman Mark Luby - on his birthday no less - on hand to do the honours.

Our full range of merch will be available to buy in the new unit over by the Fan Zone - including matchday programmes - with any heavy or bulky items available to 'buy now, pick up later'.

To celebrate the opening we'll not only be operating throughout the afternoon till at least 5pm, but we'll also be running a matchday prize draw for every supporter who makes a purchase from our new store...

The shop will be open 12-3pm on Thursdays and Fridays from next week for both in-store purchases and click n' collect... and there will no longer be a pop-up shop on matchdays in the CSH".

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports that in the Professional Development League, having been on the bench last week, JACK KINGDON was in the Cardiff City U21 starting lineup at Watford, where they scored twice without reply.

The result leaves them second in the South Division, although there are three teams within three points of them with at least one game in hand.

Scottish League Cup Quarter Final : With MARCUS DACKERS (right) playing the full game, including extra time, Kilmarnock came from behind twice against visitors St.Mirren, only to lose 5-3 on penalties. Marcus wasn't called on in the shootout.

Irish Premier Division : By the time BARRY BAGGLEY came off the St.Patricks bench in the 84th minute, both goals in their 1-1 home draw against Galway United had been scored.

FA Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round : Lower Breck, newly promoted to NPL Division 1 West, have started like a train, with 19 points from a possible 21. They sit 6 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand, and they proved much too good for Stalybridge Celtic at Bower Fold, notching three goals without reply.

KYLE BROWNHILL started for Celtic while ELLIOTT ROKKA was an unused substitute. GREG WILKINSON wasn't involved.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

The Enterprise National League announces that "Dyno-Rod, the UK’s leading plumbing and drainage service provider, has been announced as the Official Plumbing and Drainage Partner of the National League.

This partnership will see Dyno-Rod activate across three touchpoints: the clubs, communities and fans, and underscores the company’s commitment to deepening its connection with local communities. As part of the collaboration, Dyno-Rod will provide expert plumbing and drainage support to league facilities, while engaging fans and players through community initiatives, matchday activations, and exclusive promotions...

The partnership will also see Dyno-Rod branding featured across league venues, digital platforms, and official communications, reinforcing its presence as a trusted name in plumbing and drainage solutions".

At Yeovil Town, the Glovers "announce the return of Andrew Oluwabori, who joins the Glovers on loan from Exeter City until January 2026.

A familiar face at Huish Park, the 23-year-old winger previously represented Yeovil during the 2022/23 season, making 26 appearances and scoring two goals..

Since leaving Somerset, Oluwabori has continued to impress, spending a couple of years with FC Halifax Town, where he netted 7 goals in 33 appearances. His performances at The Shay caught the attention of Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell, who brought him to St James Park in February 2025...

Oluwabori becomes Danny Webb’s first signing as Yeovil Town manager, adding pace, flair, and direct attacking threat".

Italian logistic failures do not usually have much impact on non-League football but Woking in Surrey report that problems 838 miles away have caused the Cards to "inform supporters that the delivery of the new 2025/26 Erreà home and away shirts has been delayed due to a system outage with Global Logistics Services (GLS). This unexpected issue has held up the shipment in transit between Parma, Italy, and the UK.

We know how eagerly our supporters have been anticipating the arrival of the new kits, and we sincerely apologise for this frustrating delay."

In advance of today's game, https://www.wealdstone-fc.com/post/their-league-position-is-false-sam-cox-previews-morecambe-a">Weladstone reported that manager "Sam Cox believes that his side will face a 'tough test'at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium against a Morecambe team who he believes are in a 'false' position in the league table as things stand...

The 34-year-old said 'We know that Morecambe are obviously a side that is in transition, but they have made some really good signings over the past couple of weeks. For me, they have one of the most talented squads in the National League on paper...

'I feel that [head coach] Ashvir is doing a great job. They are still building their methodology, and their league position at the moment is certainly false. I have no doubt that it will be very different to the position they are in when they finish the season...

'We worked on some tactical elements and made sure that we will be completely prepared for what will be a tough test at Morecambe... The last two games have been positive, getting a draw and a win, and I would like to follow that up with another positive result this weekend'".

York City relay a statement from North Yorkshire Police that "Following a thorough and detailed investigation relating to an alleged racist incident which occurred at the LNER Community Stadium on Friday, 11th July 2025, there is no evidence to corroborate the report which was made.

As part of our investigation, we have worked with the person reporting, both clubs [York City and Salford City], and fans to gather evidence. Based on these findings, our officers are satisfied that no offences have occurred. The victim, who raised the concerns, has received an update from North Yorkshire Police..

York City Football Club would like to reiterate that the LNER Community Stadium will always be a place for everyone".

"Aiming to stretch their unbeaten run in all competitions to four matches, Solihull Moors visit York City in the National League on Saturday afternoon.

Since the arrival of former assistant coach James Quinn into the main hotseat, the Moors have enjoyed a three-game run without defeat, with their most recent success arriving on Tuesday night.

After a goalless 90 minutes and eight perfect penalties, Szhem Whyte-Hall scored the winning kick from 12 yards out against Burnley Under-21s in the National League Cup.

Solihull now turn their attentions back to fifth-tier action, in which they have collected four points from two matches under the tutelage of Quinn, playing out a wild 4-4 draw with Morecambe last weekend at Damson Park.

It is fair to say that the Moors’ productive run of results should come under threat in the North-East this weekend, when York will be striving to extend their unbeaten streak to eight matches...

The Minstermen started steadily in 2025-26 with three draws from their opening four but have really picked up the pace since then, earning a maximum of nine points and netting 10 goals across their last three fifth-tier battles".

AT Rochdale "A mural featuring Dale legend Joe Thompson at the Crown Oil Arena has been completed.

Commissioned by the Thompson family in partnership with the club, the mural is a lasting and touching tribute to one of our very own.

Joe’s inspirational quote – 'Don’t live life to survive, live life to thrive' – features on the mural, which has been created by artist AKSE....

Situated on an external wall of the stadium, at the corner of Sandy Lane and Willbutts Lane, we would encourage all supporters to visit the mural.

Joe sadly passed earlier this year, following a brave battle against a third cancer diagnosis. His legacy will forever be remembered@".

NEXT: CARLISLE UNITED

Altrincham entertain Carlisle United this Saturday (20th).

Mark Hughes touches on the game against Altrincham in Carlisle United's interview with their manager ahead of the match.

It is Carlisle's first league visit to the J. Davidson Stadium but their youth team did visit Altrincham in the FA Youth Cup First Round as recently as 31 October, 2024.

After 90 minutes Altrincham led Carlisle 1-0. Fifteen playing minutes later they trailed 1-4, the visitors having taken the game to extra time with an equaliser in the second added minute at the end of the second half before netting three goals in the first half of extra time.

Right: Altrincham will be hoping for a similar scoreline to that shown on the JDS scoreboard in October 2024, but not for the same eventual outcome.

Alty had taken a 78th minute lead through substitute Charley Jerrald before Carlisle's O'Donoghue equalised (90+2 mins).

In extra time Lambert netted (92 mins), before Dan Hopper put Carlisle further ahead (99 mins). In the 102nd minute Rigby vanquished any hope of a comeback as he made it 1-4 (102 mins).

NEXT: CARLISLE UNITED

Altrincham host Carlisle United on Saturday, the club relegated with Morecambe from EFL2 last summer. Before this season, both clubs had had previous experience of non-League football. In the Cumbrians case that was through relegation in 2004.

However, Carlisle United became one of the few former EFL clubs to have bounced back immediately to the Football League after relegation. In the Cumbrians' case that was through the play-offs in 2005.

In fact, the current composition of EFL2 includes no fewer than nineteen clubs who have had a spell in non-League since the formation of a national division of non-League football

The only five current EFL2 clubs clubs not to have been experienced non-League football in that period are Swindon Town, Gillingham, Walsall, Crewe Alexandra and MK Dons.

OWEN GERMAN RETURNS

Altrincham FC reports that "midfielder Owen German [has] returned to The J. Davidson Stadium after spending the first month of 2025/26 on loan with Enterprise National League North side Alfreton Town".

Owen was on his second loan spell with the Reds, having spent time there last season.

ALTY OLD BOYS

The voluble Peterborough United chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, has been trying once more to talk up the asking price for CHRIS CONN-CLARKE (right). Cumbria's News & Star reports that MacAnthony "said 'Conn-Clarke a year ago was the best player in non-league and scored 30 goals [no, he didn't, he scored 23]. If people think I’m giving him away or whatever else…it’s not going to happen...

'For the York fans to say they’re not interested any more, it was their owner that reached out to [Peterborough director of football] Barry Fry almost ten days ago to do a deal. Then Carlisle have come on. Carlisle are still there but they haven’t pressed the button.

'I think Conn-Clarke goes in and scores 25 goals at that level'...

He has scored once in 30 outings for Peterborough and has not featured for the London Road club this term so far.

United have not publicly confirmed or denied the status of their interest in the player, though Forest Green boss Savage recently denied 'categorically that his club are in for Conn-Clarke...

'I’m going to message Robbie Savage today and say... listen to me on this. This boy [Conn-Clarke] will absolutely kill it at that level,' he added.

'On top of that, he’s about 12lbs lighter than when he was player of the year in non-league and actually scored 30 goals [i.e. 23]'".

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Following a procedure employed by Phil Parkinson in last season's competition, the Wolverhampton Express & Star reports that "Forest Green Rovers boss Robbie Savage exploited a loophole in the rules during Tuesday night's National League Cup victory over Wolves under-21s...

Strict competition rules state fifth tier National League clubs must include at least four players who started the club's previous fixture in their first XI.

Savage found a way to rest all his players while staying within guidelines...

Forest Green forward Tom Knowles, winger Kyle McAllister, left-back Neil Kengni and centre-back Abraham Kanu all remained in the starting line-up, but Savage replaced them all with fringe players just seconds after kick-off".

Footnote: Savage was not quite the complete innovator suggested by the article.

Back on 28 January 2025, in Altrincham's fourth and final group stage match in Group B of the National League Cup, coincidentally also at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers U21s, the Robins started with the bare minimum of four first-team players who had started the previous league match.

And three of those four were hauled off after just 19 minutes, leaving only Lewis Banks as a player on the pitch who had started this game and the match last Saturday. And he was to be subbed at half-time.

Yet another player has joined Morecambe bringing their squad up to THIRTY players as Wikipedia confirms.

The Shrimps stated "Exciting youngster Maldini Kacurri is next to sign with the Shrimps on loan from Arsenal.

The defender started his youth career at Fulham, before making the move to Arsenal in 2022 and became a regular feature of their Premier League 2 side. The 19-year-old went on to sign his first professional contract with the Gunners in the summer of 2024...

Kacurri spent the end of last season on loan at EFL League Two side Bromley...

Just a week ago, Kacurri made his senior international debut for Albania".

Arsenal have confirmed that Kacurri will join Morecambe on loan for the whole season.

Eastleigh "confirm Zavier Massiah-Edwards’s loan has been extended for a further month.

The 18-year-old joined the club on an initial month-long loan in mid-August which expired on Sunday. The attacker has made five appearances for the Spitfires and is now due to remain at Silverlake Stadium until October"

He scored "his first professional goal during our trip to Halifax Town on Saturday".

Footnote: Edwards is on loan from Watford.

Scunthorpe United "announce the re-signing of forward Tyrell Sellars-Fleming on loan from Hull City on an initial one-month deal.

A product of the Iron’s youth academy, Sellars-Fleming departed the club to join the Tigers in 2023 with just a handful of first team appearances under his belt...

Since making the move to the MKM Stadium, Sellars-Fleming has been consistently involved in the club’s first-team squad making nine appearances over the last two seasons...

Tell has finished as Hull’s U21’s top scorer two years on the bounce with an impressive return of 27 goals in two seasons...

Sellars-Fleming spent the latter half of the 2024-25 season on loan with fellow National league side Gateshead FC. During his time with the Heed he would play 15 times".

Wealdstone report that "As per our announcement on Wednesday 10th September 2025 regarding an approach from Nick Semaca, a prospective new investor, Nick has also expressed interest in acquiring existing shares in Wealdstone Football Club (2000) LTD.

As part of this process, all current shareholders have been invited to indicate whether they would be interested in exploring the possibility of selling some or all of their shares...

It is important to note that this is not a binding commitment, it is simply the first step in understanding shareholder appetite".

5 MANAGERS SACKED IN 30 DAYS

Sutton United "confirm the departure of Steve Morison as Head Coach by mutual consent.

Morison came in from Hornchurch to replace Matt Gray in January 2024 and stabilised performances at the backend of the 2023/24 campaign, having taken over with the U’s in the League Two relegation zone. Under his guidance, Sutton then took their relegation fight to the final day with an eight-game unbeaten run to end the campaign, but were condemned to the drop after a 4-4 draw with MK Dons.

Right: Steve Morison was serving a touchline ban when his "U"s team visited Altrincham on 6 September and he is pictured, here, sitting in the stand before kick off.

He subsequently took charge of a massive overhaul on the pitch the following summer which led to a 12th place finish in the National League last term, before a difficult start to the current campaign.

The Club wishes to place on record its thanks to Steve for his service during his 21-month spell at Gander Green Lane. His energy, passion and dedication have been infectious to all, and his tireless work off the pitch in helping reshape the club as a more professional organisation has been invaluable. We wish him all the best for the future.

First Team Coach, Jon Meeney, will assume the position of Interim Head Coach, with a newly-appointed Head Coach to be confirmed in due course.

Footnote: The National League season kicked off on 9 August and just 9 days later, on 18 August, came the first sacking as Derek Adams was shown the door at Morecambe.

Today 17th September, just 30 days after the first sacking, comes the fifth parting of the ways of the campaign with Morison being dismissed at Sutton United who lie 22nd in the National League, having won just one of their nine fixtures to date.

Between Adams's and Morison's dismissals, three other managers have been dismissed.

They are Yeovil Town's Mark Cooper (26th August), York City's Adam Hinshelwood (28th August) and Solihull Moors boss Matt Taylor (3 September).

CONGRATULATIONS, PAUL

Altrincham FC reports that the club's "Academy manager Paul Fay heads into the 2025/26 season with his UEFA A Licence after completing the highly regarded qualification earlier this year...

[He is now] entering his fourth season in the Academy hot seat">

Pau stated, "The depth of knowledge required and the learning I have undertaken have enhanced me as a coach and being able to share with the coaches I work with is rewarding."...

As for this season for the Academy "It’s been a disjointed start to the season with the opening fixtures of the National League u19 Alliance on September 3rd being postponed due to the FA Youth Cup, and an other county competition effecting September 10th, but we start the campaign away to Gateshead next week.

"The opening away game to Barnsley in the National Football Youth League was positive... We are going into the busiest time of the youth season, but with that brings the excitement of the FA Youth Cup Second Round Qualifying draw in the next few days".

NEXT: CARLISLE UNITED

On Saturday Carlisle United visit the J. Davidson Stadium.

Apart from REGAN LINNEY and former Gateshead man Stephen Wearne, most of the Carlisle United squad will be new to Altrincham supporters.

So who else is in their squad?

The only player to feature for every minute of their campaign so far is 21 year-old goalkeeper Gabriel Breeze, who is local lad who featured 32 times for the club in EFL2 last season.

Carlisle have won their last three fixtures without conceding a goal and Breeze has already accrued six clean sheets this season.

Defender and captain of the team, Thomas Terrell, has played virtually every minute this season but was subbed once, though that was just for added time in the away win at Brackley Town.

Interestingly, REGAN LINNEY has started all nine fixtures, a cumulative sequence that he exceeded only once for Altrincham in his three seasons at the club.

That was last season when he had a run of ten consecutive league starts (games 20-29).

The other players to start all of Carlisle's league games so far this season are Jack Ellis, Luke Armstrong, Stephen Wearne and Georgie Kelly. With four goals to his name, Armstrong is the second leading scorer at the club this season.

United's leading scorer is, of course, REGAN LINNEY, who has netted 8 goals in his nine starts this season.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports on Tuesday's action.

Professional Development League : A number of clubs give their U21sides decent coverage on their social media channels. Unfortunately, Cardiff City are not one of them, so while we know that JACK KINGDON was named as a substitute at Huddersfield Town, we have no idea whether he played any active part as they came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw. The point was the Yorkshire club's first of the season.

EFL Trophy : By the time ELLIOT NEWBY (right) came off Barrow's bench at Blackpool, they were already 3-0 down, and went on to concede twice more.

National League Cup : With captain and former Alty trialist ZAK MILLS rested, Boston United handed the armband to CONNOR TEALE. They took him off at half time when they were 3-0 up, and went on to beat Sunderland U21 4-0.

KEVIN BERKOE was credited with assist for Rochdale's 7th minute opener, but visitors Blackburn Rovers U21 went in 1-2 up at the break. Both Kevin and LIAM HUMBLES (left) played the full match as Rochdale fought back to win 3-2.

When JUSTIN DONAWA was substituted after 74 minutes, Brackley Town led Manchester United U21 2-0, and although the visitors eventually pulled a goal back in the 94th minute it was too little too late.

When KENNEDY DIGIE came off the Tamworth bench after 75 minutes against Everton U21, the teams were locked at 1-1, but they managed to nick a late winner.

EFL Cup Having seen off Manchester United in the previous round, Grimsby Town went through to the last 16 with the only goal at Hillsborough against troubled Sheffield Wednesday. JUSTIN AMALUZOR played the full game.

Northern Ireland Premiership: Linfield again left SAM ROSCOE on the bench as they went down 1-0 at Ballymena.

FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round Replays : CALEB ANSEN was beaten after only 10 minutes as he played for Bedford Town at Dagenham & Redbridge, and, although he made a number of saves later, the hosts, with ASHLEY HEMMINGS putting in a full shift, went through by that solitary goal, and will travel to Spalding United in the next round.

Meanwhile, Southport will tread a similar path to that travelled by Witton Albion last weekend, having seen off Radcliffe at Haig Avenue to earn a trip to Morpeth Town.

The visitors had JORDAN HULME (left) and BRAD JACKSON in their starting lineup, and it was Brad who struck at the end of the first half to level the tie at 1-1, after Jordan's shot had deflected to him.

Southport brought LUKE BURGESS off the bench just after they'd regained the lead, and in the 89th minute he made it 3-1. Radcliffe's 93rd minute strike was merely a consolation.

NPL Premier Division : JOEL BAILEY (right) played the full game for Bamber Bridge at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels, who came from behind to lead before going down to 10 men and settling for a 2-2 draw.

It was goalless at the break at Rushall Olympic, but Hyde United skipper JACK REDSHAW struck twice within 6 minutes of the restart, and they were the game's only goals.

NPL Division 1 West : RYAN BROOKE played the first 81 minutes for Runcorn Linnets as they saw off visitors Kidsgrove Athletic 3-0.

Meanwhile, at Shawe View, Trafford scored 4 goals, yet still sit at the bottom of the league without a point from 5 games. Captained by SEAN HIGGINS, who was booked, but without JEROME WRIGHT, they were overwhelmed by Stalybridge Celtic who notched 6 goals, striker Ruben Jerome putting away 5 of them.

KYLE BROWNHILL played the full game for Celtic, and ELLIOT ROKKA came off the bench midway through the second half. GREG WILKINSON wasn't involved this evening.

NWCL Premier Division : Although JOE MWASILE (right) pulled Litherland REMYCA back into the game after hosts Atherton Laburnum Rovers had scored twice in as many minutes, they eventually lost 3-1.

LEWIS BILLINGSLEY was among the scorers for West Didsbury & Chorlton in their 2-4 win at Irlam.

Rochdale report that "David Tutonda will be out of action for around four-to-six weeks, confirmed Jimmy McNulty. The 29-year-old, who joined from Morecambe in the summer, suffered an injury setback 'this week in training,' commented Jim McNulty...

Wing-back Joe Pritchard has been absent since our home win over Sutton United, in which he was forced off the field... 'We’re not completely sure on the timeline, he’s seeing the best people and the route we’re taking at the moment is non-surgical. We won’t know if that is the route until six weeks time when they check again.

'All going well, he’ll enter a four month recovery but if it doesn’t look on track then the surgical options will be explored and that will be much longer unfortunately.'

McNulty was able to hand a debut to [former Altrincham loanee] KEVIN BERKOE who joined the club on a loan deal from Salford City until January. 'I was buzzing with him (at Truro), he really locked down that left-hand side of the pitch with real grit. Some of his tackling was fierce.

'Kev has been on my radar for a long time, I’ve had previous conversations with Salford at different moments and I’m delighted with him.'"

At Wealdstone announced on the eve of last Saturday's match that "Supporters Club members will have the opportunity to meet Nick Semaca, the proposed new investor in the Club...

Nick will be joined by Acting Club Chairman Dominic Whyley and together they will take questions from Supporters Club members on:

  • The proposed changes to the Club’s Articles of Association
  • The investment proposal itself
  • The safeguarding of Wealdstone’s identity and heritage, including the Club’s name, crest, colours and stadium
  • The importance of fan engagement, the vital role the Supporters Club will play to protect our heritage and under a new club licensing system being introduced by the Independent Football Regulator. .

For those who are not shareholders, it is also a chance to engage directly in the discussion about the Club’s future. Please note: This meeting is strictly for Supporters Club members only".

Hartlepool United are recruiting to create a team of volunteer Matchday Supporter Liaison Officers (MSLOs) to assist the Club’s Supporter Liaison Officer on home matchdays with improving the experience for supporters.

The role of a MSLO is to be the first point of contact for supporters and fan groups on matchdays regarding queries, issues and feedback. We aim to ensure that all visitors to The Prestige Group Stadium have a memorable experience...

MSLOs will provide help, guidance and answers to supporter enquiries in the build up to kick-off, as well as taking feedback and suggestions during the game and post-match. MSLOs will act as advocates for both Hartlepool United and supporters, be a friendly face to welcome people to The Prestige Group Stadium and will liaise and feed back to the Supporter Liaison Officer...

References will be required prior to commencing the role... This is a volunteer role, your entry into the match will be included and refreshments provided".

BOREHAM WOOD MATCH: HIGHLIGHTS

Alty TV has video highlights of Altrincham's defeat at Boreham Wood last Saturday.

NEXT: CARLISLE UNITED

Altrincham entertain Carlisle United on Saturday.

Carlisle's most recent game was a -2-0 win over Aldershot Town, who report that "second-half goals from Regan Linney and Bevis Mugabi secured three points for Carlisle United at Brunton Park...

The majority of the game in the opening stages was played in midfield with neither team getting much of a look at goal...

But in the 25th minute... Regan Linney broke into the box from the left wing and his curling effort was superbly stopped by the Shots’ ‘keeper.

An outrageous decision to not award the Shots a corner in the 32nd minute allowed Carlisle to break forward from their goal kick and Dewhurst was on form again to deny Linney with another fine stop with his feet. From the following corner, the ball fell to Linney and after working space to shoot, [he] was denied by Dewhurst’s foot again.

Three minutes later, the frame of the goal denied the Shots from taking the lead...

It took less than two minutes for the home side to open the scoring after the break. Regan Linney found himself able to run at the Shots goal in space down the left and kept his composure to slot it past Marcus Dewhurst...

With The Shots chasing a route back into the game, the affair was opening up and chances were coming thick and fast... Happy to settle for a two-goal advantage, Carlisle began to take their foot off the pedal...

Carlisle lineup: 1. Gabe Breeze, 2. Archie Davies (37. Harvey MacAdam, 67′), 3. Cameron Harper, 4. Terell Thomas (C), 10. Regan Linney (7. David Ajiboye, 90′), 11. Junior Luamba (9. Georgie Kelly, 67′), 16. Stephen Wearne (8. Callum Whelan, 85′), 18. Jack Ellis, 20. Alex Gilliead (24. Josh Grant, 85′), 26. Bevis Mugabi, 29. Luke Armstrong. Subs not used: 25. Harry Lewis, 5. Morgan Feeney".

NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Brackley Town "announce the signing of Southampton defender Will Armitage on a month's loan.

The 20-year-old joined Southampton as a 16-year-old having already made his senior debut for Cheltenham Town and becoming their youngest-ever appearance maker at the time.

He had a loan spell at National League side Aldershot Town last season, where he made 20 appearances for the Shots".

Morecambe "announce the signing of right back Lewis Payne.

The 21-year-old’s career began in the Southampton academy before signing his first professional contract with the Saints in 2022.

Payne spent three months at National League side Eastleigh in 2023, before enjoying a loan spell at EFL League Two outfit Newport County.... gaining valuable experience of EFL first team football.

Last season Payne joined Cheltenham Town on a season long loan and after making 17 appearances was recalled...

Ashvir Singh Johal said... 'He fits exactly how we're looking to play. He is very aggressive, he defends on the front foot but with the ball he can really make a difference in the final third'">

Footnote: At the latest count, Morecambe now have 28 players in their first-team squad!

At managerless SolihullMoors, acting manager James Quinn was asked about his side's 4-4 draw last weekend with Morecambe.

He said, "It was a great game to watch, for the fans and for neutrals, but if you were on either set of staff, it’s not exactly the game you want; it turned into a bit of a basketball game.

It was they attacked, we attacked, they attacked, we attacked, up until about the last 10 minutes, where we really got a lot of possession in their final third. I think we probably had more chances today than we’ve ever had at the club in my time and we scored four of them and you know I’m still not happy with that - we should have had 7 or 8!...

We’ll take a point, they were a good team with some really good players in there and we’ll take a point and move on to next week'".

There was trouble with the Crown Oil Arena pitch last season but, this season, Rochdale "are recruiting a pool of volunteers to help with our rain covers.

Volunteers will assist our ground staff in clearing standing water off the covers and removing them ahead of home matches where they have been deployed.

We are looking to recruit a large number of Dale fans, aged 18+, who are willing to support with a few hours of physical work around 5-6 hours before kick-off...

A message will be sent to the group when covers are being used in the days before a match, allowing volunteers to reply with their availability, so Club staff can plan ahead...

We plan to thank and reward all volunteers throughout the year and at the end of the season via a number of initiatives to express our gratitude".

NEXT: CARLISLE UNITED

Altrincham face third-placed Carlisle United next Saturday at the J.Davidson Stadium. In their squad will be Alty's top scorer of last season, Regan Linney.

Right: Regan Linney in action against Boreham Wood in August 2023.

Relegated last season from EFL2, Carlisle had spent one previous season in non-League since joining the Football League in 1928. That was in 2004-05 when they finished third and gained an immediate return to the EFL via the play-offs.

Back in 2004-05 Altrincham were in the North Division so the clubs did not meet.

Last Saturday Carlisle won 2-0 over Aldershot Town, stopping the Hampshire club from scoring for the first time this season.

Carlisle United head coach Mark Hughes said "I was really pleased with how we approached it today. Obviously, we were playing at a side that scored lots and lots of goals, and to be able to keep them out, keep a clean sheet again against a side that's obviously quite expansive, take chances and commit people forward, which is an obvious strength of theirs...

He continued... 'When opposition management say that you're one of the better teams, then obviously you take that as a compliment'...

The Shots’ keeper, Marcus Dewhurst, made a string of excellent saves to keep the scores level at the break to Hughes’ frustration...

'Once we got the one, we did feel that we'd have other opportunities to take the game away from them, and that's how the game panned out. So overall, very satisfied...

'We've always got a plan, it's a case of just making sure that instead of the opposition dictating their plan to you, we have to have the ability and the understanding to be able to dictate to them, and I think that's what we did...

'We took the game away from them in the second half and very comfortable'.

Defenders Terell Thomas and Bevis Mugabi were key in the victory, keeping a third clean sheet in a row."

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports...

Scottish Premiership: MARCUS DACKERS played the whole of Kilmarnock's 1-2 home defeat by Celtic.

Ligue 1 : MAXI OYEDELE isn't shown on Strasbourg's injury list (but 8 players are!). However he wasn't in their squad today (Sunday) as they managed to score the only goal of the game against visitors Le Havre.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE

In Saturday's programme, the Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter wrote that "It’s a very nice feeling to be a Chairman of a club eight games unbeaten and an even better feeling to be writing about the level of performance at the moment that has been a joy to watch...

At present other than Jack Payne, we do not have any other long-term casualties, although Luke Norris did turn his ankle last Saturday against Morecambe and will need a scan next week as a precaution...

Off the pitch it’s also been a very busy few months in regard to recruitment, the summer builds, facility refurbs, floodlight upgrade, decorations and now as we enter the final phases of dealing with the forthcoming planning issues and planning submissions, we must look to the future and finalise the design...

Let me formally welcome the club's newbies to our football club in Fin Herrick, Lewis Richardson, Tom White and my old friend Zak Brunt... The summer signings have already strengthened our squad with their many qualities and as such, they do give me huge optimism and real hope for a very successful season ahead."

BOREHAM WOOD 3-1 ALTRINCHAM

Saturday's defeat leaves Altrincham as the only team in the Enterprise National League to have played nine games and not drawn once.

Right: Jimmy Knowles was Alty's goalscorer at Boreham Wood.

Alty have won four times and lost on five occasions. It is not the first time that Alty have started a campaign without a draw in their first nine outings; the most recent previous occasion was in 2021-22 when six wins and three defeats made up the sequence. However, Alty drew game then, a 1-1 draw away at Yeovil Town.

The only other National League side not to have drawn a game this season are leaders Rochdale, but they have only played eight fixtures.

Match report here.

POST-MATCH PARKY

Speaking to Radio Robins Laurence Howarth after the defeat at Boreham Wood, manager Phil Parkisnon admitted that in the first half "It was the worst we've played so far" this season.

He felt that Boreham wood "were on a different level today" compared with his team.

Phil added thet "We didn't get the ball to the front lads, we were so poor in possession". Indeed, he believed that his side had "not looked so blunt" this season.

In contrast, he judged that The Wood "were the strongest team we've come up against in possession".

NEXT: CARLISLE UNITED

Altrincham's next fixture is at home next Saturday (20th) when Carlisle United are the visitors, along with former Alty man REGAN LINNEY.

Following the third-placed Cumbrians to Moss Lane on the following Tuesday are second-placed Forest Green Rovers.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan has tracked the activities this Saturday of no fewer than 78 former Altrincham players or loanees!

League One : ALI SMITH played the whole game for AFC Wimbledon as they came from being behind at the break to beat visitors Rotherham United 2-1.

OWEN DALE (right) came off Plymouth Argyle's bench at Luton Town after just 4 minutes to replace the injured Caleb Watts. Argyle were never behind, and won 2-3.

CARL PIERGIANNI was one of 4 Stevenage players booked in their 1-1 draw at Mansfield Town.

League Two : Grimsby Town were a goal down to visitors Cambridge United, and introduced JUSTIN AMALUZOR after 64 minutes - and he scored in the 97th minute to earn his side a 1-1 draw.

Cheltenham Town threw on JAKE BICKERSTAFF after 72 minutes, but within 2 minutes hosts Crawley Town doubled their lead and won 2-0. DANNY CASHMAN was missing through injury.

JOEL SENIOR was withdrawn in the 90th minute as Bristol Rovers beat visitors Barrow 2-1. ELLIOT NEWBY was credited with the assist for the goal that reduced the arrears, but was then withdrawn in the 85th minute.

Fleetwood drew 1-1 at home to Walsall, with HARRISON HOLGATE again preferred to TOBY MULLARKEY who watched from the bench.

A full shift from SONNY ALJOFREE (right) wasn't enough for Notts County to avoid a 1-0 defeat at Gillingham.

Oldham Athletic, without the injured REAGAN OGLE, finally scored the only goal of their home game against Bromley after 82 minutes. The Southern club sent on MARCUS DINANGA 3 minutes later, but he wasn't able to conjure an equaliser.

The absence of KEVIN BERKOE didn't stop Salford City from winning 1-3 at Shrewsbury Town.

Having claimed the assist for the goal that gave Tranmere Rovers a half time lead, CONNOR JENNINGS didn't continue after the break. Visitors Newport County forced a 1-1 draw in the 87th minute.

National League : In a game of few chances, KYLE FERGUSON and his Yeovil Town colleagues snatched a 1-0 home win against Woking in the 92nd minute. MATT GOULD was, as usual, on the bench.

York City were behind at the break at Braintree Town, and things looked tricky when the hosts doubled their lead within 2 minutes of the restart.

They soon pulled a goal back, and after TYRESE SINCLAIR (left) was replaced in the 61st minute, they went on to complete their recovery, winning 2-3. ALEX NEWBY was substituted in the 94th minute.

Having been booked in the first half, REGAN LINNEY put Carlisle United ahead in their home game against Aldershot. He was substituted in the 90th minute, by which time his side had wrapped up a 2-0 win.

It was the first time that Aldershot had failed to score in the league this season - they had, in fact, scored at least twice in every game before today.

On his return from international duty with Bermuda, JUSTIN DONAWA played the whole of Brackley Town's goalless draw at Hartlepool United.

There was an 8 goal thriller at Damson Park, as Solihull Moors, having led twice, then had to come from behind twice to earn a draw against Morecambe, who left JOE NUTTALL on the bench.

Ably assisted in defence by CONNOR TEALE, former Robins trialist ZAK MILLS unexpectedly put Boston United ahead at Southend. When the hosts won a penalty just 3 minutes later, the responsibility was surprisingly given to Jack Bridge, who had only been on the field for 2 minutes.

Luckily, when his effort was saved, the experienced Andrew Dallas was on hand to bury the rebound and earn his side a 1-1 draw.

Despite a booking for KENNEDY DIGIE, Tamworth won 2-3 at Sutton United.

KEVIN BERKOE'S previously mentioned absence for Salford City was due to him making a 73rd minute debut on loan to Rochdale, who had long since scored the only goal of the game at Truro City.

FA CUP 2nd Qualifying Round :

Both SEAN MILLER and LUKE WALL were missing from the Runcorn Linnets squad at Pickering Town, but RYAN BROOKE came off the bench after 62 minutes, and sealed their 0-2 victory in the 86th minute.

CRAIG MAHON has 4 Old Boys to call on now, and the starting XI at home to Bamber Bridge included CHRIS MERRIE (left) and LIAM BROCKBANK, while GEORGE WILSON and new signing RYAN COLCLOUGH were on the bench. After 65 minutes George replaced Chris.

It was 2-0 at that point, but then Bridge reduced the arrears 2 minutes later. After 74 minutes Ryan replaced Liam. After 75 minutes George scored his first Fylde goal, and 6 minutes later Ryan's effort to emulate was pushed clear but Luca Thomas wrapped up the scoring at 4-1. Robins loanee JOEL BAILEY played the full game for Bridge

There was a rude awakening for Kidderminster Harriers, who, without DAN MOONEY, were dumped out of the competition 3-1 when they travelled to AFC Telford United.

Dagenham & Redbridge were a goal ahead at Bedford Town, when their marquee signing, Andy Carroll, was sent off in the 45th minute. ASHLEY HEMMINGS came off the bench after 74 minutes, but the hosts equalised in added time to earn a replay.

Bedford Town fielded their loanee goalkeeper from Norwich City, a guy called CALEB ANSEN.

Bootle, with TONY THOMPSON in goal, also had TOM HANNIGAN in their starting lineup against visitors Darlington. They led at half time, but Darlo came back strongly to win 1-3. Tom was withdrawn after 88 minutes, while DIOR ANGUS came on after 79 minutes only to go off injured 5 minutes later.

Captained by CONNOR KIRBY (right), Buxton had to wait until the 55th minute before opening the scoring from the penalty spot against visitors Redditch United, but then went on to win 3-0.

When MICHAEL GYASI was withdrawn by King's Lynn at Chesham United after 64 minutes they were already 1-3 ahead, and added another late on.

RON SITHOLE was on FC United's bench as they were on the wrong end of one of the shocks of the round, going down by the only goal at Broadhurst Park against Chadderton.

Gainsborough Trinity had to come from behind to beat visitors Rushall Olympic 2-1, JONNY MARGETTS scoring the winner from the spot in added time.

Captained by LUKE WATERFALL, Worksop Town led 2-0 after 15 minutes at Harborough Town, but soon after that they had a penalty saved....and then it all went wrong, as they lost 3-2.

By the time Hyde United skipper JACK REDSHAW was substituted after 85 minutes his team had sealed a 2-0 win over Whitby Town.

SAM HEATHCOTE started for Macclesfield Town at home to Atherton Laburnum Rovers, while REGAN GRIFFITHS was on the bench for just 12 minutes before replacing an injured team mate. It took the Silkmen 56 minutes to break the deadlock, but in the end they won comfortably 3-0.

Witton Albion made the long trip to Morpeth Town, where they gave starts to JOEL BEMBO-LETA and JAMES LAWRIE. James was replaced by MAX HARROP (left) after 62 minutes, by which time the Northumberland club had built what turned out to be a 2-1 winning lead.

REMI RAYMOND came on after 70 minutes, as did BEN HARRISON 16 minutes later.

AIDY ROXBURGH and BYRON HARRISON were in Nantwich Town's starting lineup at home to Trafford. By the time Byron was withdrawn after 86 minutes, the Dabbers had sealed a 3-1 win, without manager JON MORAN having to come off the bench. For the visitors, SEAN HIGGINS played the full game, while JEROME WRIGHT lasted 71 minutes.

Radcliffe were a goal down against visitors Southport when JORDAN HULME came off the bench after 63 minutes. BRAD JACKSON joined him 9 minutes later, and they forced a replay with a 78th minute penalty. Southport left LUKE BURGESS on the bench.

ELLIOTT DURRELL watched from the Stamford bench as they went through 0-2 at Shepshed Dynamo.

Two of Spalding United's goals in their 3-0 defeat of Alfreton Town came after YUSIFU CEESAY shot, the keeper couldn't hold the ball, and team mates knocked in the loose ball. LEWIS SALMON and HARRY PERRITT were among the Alfreton substitutes.

Stalybridge Celtic started KYLE BROWNHILL at home to Chester, while GREG WILKINSON and ELLIOTT ROKKA were second half substitutes, but visitors Chester won 1-2.

TOM PEERS put them ahead after 61 minutes. DYLAN MOTTLEY-HENRY came off the bench 3 minutes later, and after being pegged back briefly Chester struck in the 88th minute to clinch a spot in the next round.

Welsh Premier League : JOEL TORRANCE made 7 saves, but Bala Town were outclassed at Barry and went down 4-0.

NPL Division 1 Midlands : Mickleover captain ANDY DALES (right) came off after 78 minutes with his side winning 3-0. Visitors Bourne Town reduced the arrears in the last minute of normal time.

NPL Division 1 West : Atherton Collieries withdrew SAM SHERIDAN while they were 2-0 up after 54 minutes, but captain JOE PIGGOTT played the full game as visitors Stafford Rangers reduced the arrears, but finally lost 3-1.

Wythenshawe Town captain ASTLEY MULHOLLAND picked up a yellow card in their 2-2 home draw against Mossley, who withdrew MASON FAWNS after 83 minutes.

NWCL Premier Division : LEWIS BILLINGSLEY opened the scoring for West Didsbury & Chorlton, and they went on to beat visitors Barnoldswick Town 4-0.

BOREHAM WOOD 3-1 ALTRINCHAM

After a disastrous first half in which Alty barely laid a glove on their newly promoted hosts, Boreham Wood led by three goals to nil. The stats indicated 62% first-half possession for Boreham Wood and a 6-0 lead in shots on target and 3-1 lead on corner kicks.

The first two goals were both scored by Erico Sousa (17 and 28 minutes) and both arose from Charlie Kirk losing possession. The third goal came from a Brunt 45th minute penalty.

Despite a better showing in the second half, there was to be no recovery and the afternoon got worse when substitute Weaver was sent off for a foul in the 93rd minute.

TODAY: BOREHAM WOOD

Altrincham visit Boreham Wood today and one thing that has not changed there since Alty's last visit, two seasons ago, is the club's refusal to accommodate opposition clubs' radio commentaries.

Consequently, Altrincham FC reports that "Unfortunately, due to our hosts' stance on outside radio broadcasts, we are unable to offer Radio Robins commentary this weekend. We will, however, be offering the usual full digital coverage across social media".

DAZN will have a recorded stream of the game after the television blackout slot on Saturday.

In their match preview, Boreham Wood describe alty as "A side often contending for a place in the play-offs...

They finished four points off of [sic] Southend United in the final play-off place having finished in fourth place in the previous campaign...

One to watch: An electric forward who made a name for himself in a successful five-year spell at Crewe Alexandra, Charlie Kirk (above, right) signed for Altrincham in the summer following spells with several EFL sides."

ALTY OLD BOYS

BBC Radio Cumbria relays Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony's comments on CHRIS CONN-CLARKE.

Talking up CCC he opines that "There's three of the best clubs in non-league vying for him.

He will leave and they will have an option to pay what we paid for him a year ago. Whoever gets him will end up winning the league because he is the best player at that level in my opinion".

The 28-year-old started his career at Coventry City, graduating ...to their first team in 2014 and [he] went on to make 42 appearances for the Sky Blues.

ALTY BOSS HAPPY

Writing in the Sale & Altrincham Messenger press and Media Officer, John Edwards, reports that "James Gale and Jimmy Knowles came up with the ideal response to a pre-match challenge from boss Phil Parkinson to secure a dramatic third win in four games for Altrincham...

Trailing at half time against a physically-strong Sutton United side, the Robins roared back in the second half with a headed equaliser from Knowles and close-range 80th-minute finish by Gale to secure a 2-1 victory...

'After the full-backs [Banks and Golden] were on the scoresheet last time out, we were asking our front players whether they could show us that composure or that bit of class or magic or be in the right place at the right time, and they certainly delivered for us in the second half,' said Parkinson.

'Jimmy Knowles had one really good opportunity which he converted with a great header, but that’s what he does. The lads call him ‘Jimmy Goals’, which is a great name for any forward - I love that!

'James had four really good opportunities but looked like being denied by great defending and top goalkeeping until he finally put away probably the scruffiest one of the lot, when he was Jonny-on-the-spot.

'I’m delighted for both of them, along with Keaton Ward and Sam Reed. They all spent time together at Boston United... so they are familiar with each other and are all young and hungry to do well. It’s their time to shine, and they are repaying the faith I showed in them'".

NEXT: BOREHAM WOOD

Altrincham travel to play Boreham Wood this Saturday (13th).

It is the first visit to what is now termed the Mangata Developments Stadium Meadow Park since an Altrincham 1-0 away win on Saturday, 16 March, 2024.

A fit again Justin Donawa was restored to their starting eleven, making only his fifth league start of a disrupted season, in place of the injured Lewis Banks. Captain Isaac Marriott was again unfit and Regan Linney was suspended.

After a slow start from the visitors, Altrincham got into the game in the second half of the first forty-five minutes, with Newby spurning a good chance and Amaluzor hitting the post before both Wilson and Osborne each forced decent saves. Nevertheless the score remained goalless at the interval.

Just before the hour-mark, Chris Bush's late challenge on Donawa earned him a red card (59 mins).

Left: The only two Altrincham players who started both last Saturday and in the team's last visit to Boreham Wood, in 2024, are Lewis Baines (left) and Elliot Osborne (right).

Altrincham took the lead after 72 minutes when Osborne fed Conn-Clarke. From the edge of the box his low shot somehow left the keeper flat-footed as it found the net to his right just inside the post.

Boreham Wood included current Alty man Billy Sass-Davies on their bench. However, Billy remains unfit to make his 2025-26 debut for Altrincham against his former club.

In fact, just two of the Altrincham starters in 2024 were also starters last Saturday against Sutton United. They were Lewis Baines and Elliot Osborne.

WIN FOR ACADEMY SIDE

Altrincham FC 's Ben McNamara reports on a 3-1 away win at Barnsley on Wednesday for one of the two ALtrincham Academy sides, this being the one that competes in the National Football Youth League, NW Championship 1.

AFter conceding in the opening minutes, striker Ben Mensah made it 1-11 before Rowlands put them ahead before half-time.

On the hour mark, Obamwonyi made the game safe at 1-3 to the visitors.

Altrincham: Theo Bunting, Harry Cain. Raffi Fereday, Ben McNamara, Archie Rowland, Amara Diomande, Jimmy Taafe, Will Sneyd, Lewis Broderick, Josh Obamwonyi, Ben Menesh. Subs: Callum Dakin, Haiden Sheil, Will Molloy, Callum McCormick."

Meanwhile the Academy team which competes in the National League U19 Alliance North Division is yet to startits campaign.

As previously reported Altrincham FC is not running a Reserves side this season.

Gloverscast reports that "Danny Webb is set to be named the new Yeovil Town manager according to BBC Somerset’s Jack Killah.

The Senior Sports Reporter for Somerset tweeted" that Webb, assistant manager at Chesterfield and a former Glovers player, will be appointed but that caretaker manager Richard Dryden will remain in charge for this Saturday's fixture against Woking.

The Derbyshire Times corroborates the story stating that "Chesterfield assistant manager Danny Webb is set to leave the Spireites and be appointed the manager of Yeovil Town.

The talented 42-year-old has been at the Blues for four-and-a-half years... The popular figure joined Chesterfield in April 2021 to work with then manager James Rowe before staying on to assist Paul Cook for the last three years...

Webb’s attention to detail, particularly organising set-piece routines amongst other duties, played a huge part in the Spireites returning to the EFL just over a year ago...

We understand that reports that he is to depart to become the manager of Yeovil Town, a club he played for briefly, are true.".

Boston United "make the tough trip to Roots Hall on Saturday afternoon to face promotion-chasing Southend United...

Graham Coughlan's side... are chasing their second away win and third victory overall this season.

The Shrimpers have won two and drawn two on home soil so far...

The Pilgrims welcomed captain {and former Alty trialist] ZAK MILLS back into the fray ahead of last weekend's 2-1 home defeat to Solihull Moors and... the likes of Jordan Cropper, Liam Waldock, Frankie Maguire and Kieren Donnelly are all stepping up their rehab after recent injury problems".

At Southend United "Noor Husin is to undergo an operation on Friday which will sideline him for an extended period.

Scan results have confirmed the midfielder sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the 3-0 win over FC Halifax Town...

Head coach Kevin Maher said 'He goes in for an operation tomorrow and will have work done on his ACL and a couple of other bits that have come up as well... It’s not a good one, and he’s going to be out for a long period.

'He’s been one of our more consistent players throughout the start of the season and through to the end of last season. He’s a huge loss, not just because of what he does on the pitch but it’s things people don’t see every day in terms of standards of how you train, how you look after yourself, and how you be a professional every moment of the day. He’s exemplary at that, so he’ll be a huge loss'".

MP PRAISES ALTY

In the September issue of the monthly local newspaper, the Trafford Post, the Altrincham & Sale West MP, Connor Rand (Labour) writes, "Altrincham FC is a brilliant example of a community football club and I'm working with them to support the 3UP campaign, including by raising it in Parliament, to secure an extra promotion place from the National League ionto the EFL League Two.

This, alongside the Government's Football Governance Bill would help ensure sustainability of clubs for fans and that money flows fairly through the football pyramid".

ALTY OLD BOYS

The future direction of the Club will be decided by shareholders at the EGM".

The National League has announced its August awards and "It had to be a Rochdale double" as Jim McNulty won the Manager award and Mani Dieseruvwe lifted the Player prize.

The National League explains that "Only two sides in the past decade have recorded a better start to a campaign after six games than Rochdale this season...

After persuading Mani Dieseruvwe that the Crown Oil Arena was the place the striker should now call home, he has taken no time to settle in...

Dieseruvwe is already loving life at Rochdale and got his feet well and truly under the table with a brace at Boreham Wood on the opening weekend.

In line with League Rule 8.38, the fixture will not be replayed and the match has been awarded to Scunthorpe United. As per regulations, while Scunthorpe receive three points, no goals for or against will be added to either side’s record.

The Wealdstone FC Board of Directors were in direct contact with the National League in the aftermath of Saturday’s events. We made clear our view that the correct outcome was for Scunthorpe United to be awarded the three points.

This position was taken to demonstrate the values of sporting integrity and fair play that underpin our football club. While disappointed that the match was unable to be completed, we believe it is important to uphold the principles of the game and support an outcome that reflects the spirit of competition".

Scunthorpe were leading 2-1 after 85 minutes when the original match was abandoned following serious player injuries.

NEXT: BOREHAM WOOD

Unlike Alty, their next opponents, Boreham Wood, had a midweek game. That was at home to WBA Under-21s in the National League Cup.

The game ended in a 3-1 win for Boreham Wood.

The Wood fielded just of the same starters who beat Morecambe last Saturday.

TUESDAY SCORE

  • York City 4-0 Tamworth

ALTY DROP TWO PLACES

Without playing in midweek, Altrincham dropped two places today; the first drop of a place was because Scunthorpe United were awarded the three points for one of their abandoned games last week and so went above the Robins; the second loss of a place arose through York City's win on Tuesday night which raised the Minstermen above Alty..

So Alty have droopped out of the play-offs into ninth place.

ALTY'S SOCIAL IMPACT

In other news, AFC Fylde report "the signing of winger RYAN COLCLOUGH following the expiry of his contract at League Two side Chesterfield.

The 30-year-old arrives at Mill Farm with a heap of Football League experience, having played over 150 games across League One and Two.

The former Altrincham man puts pen to paper on a two-year deal at Mill Farm and becomes Craig Mahon’s 12th signing since taking charge....

NEXT: BOREHAM WOOD

On Saturday, Altrincham are away from home at Boreham Wood. Before then The Wood have a home match tonight (Tuesday) against WBA U21 in the National Cup.

Boreham Wood won their opening National Cup match, defeating Blackburn Rovers U21 by two goals to nil.

Although Alty have not faced Boreham Wood for two years and, historically, The Wood have few links with The Robins, they do now boast a former Altrincham player in their ranks.

That is JEFF KING who made the move to Hertfordshire over the summer on loan from York City. He is the nephew of the late John King, Altrincham's legendary former player and manager.

Left: Jeff in his Altrincham days.

Now 29, Jeff started out in Altrincham's Youth team, under George Heslop's management and joined the Robins' first-team squad in 2014.

He made his debut in the Cheshire Senior Cup at Tranmere on 18 March 2014.

As a midfielder at the time, Jeff was first named in the first-team squad on 12 April 2014, for the match against North Ferriby United, but alongside his first-team experience he continued to play for the Altrincham FC youth team, which he had joined during the 2013-14 season. After being on the first-team bench for several games he went to get match experience at Nantwich Town and then Kendal Town before leaving Altrincham and ending the season at Trafford FC.

2014 also saw him have a loan spell at Prescot Cables (loan). Released by Lee Sinnott in summer 2015, he moved on to Ashton United, followed by spells with Witton Albion and Droylsden.

He was then (2016) picked up by the then financially troubled Bolton Wanderers, making an appearance for them in the EFL Cup before going on loan in 2018 to FC United of Manchester.

Next, came a move to Scotland with St Mirren before Jeff joined FC Halifax Town in 2019 where he became Player of the Season.

In 2021 he was signed by Chesterfield where he made nearly 100 appearances and won promotion to the EFL.

However, by the start of 2024-25 season he had moved on to Swindon Town, from where he joined York City in November 2024. His loan by the Minstermen to Boreham Wood was arranged over the summer of 2025.

LOANEE IS ALTY'S LAST MAN STANDING

Altrincham FC loanee from Blackpool, Dan Sassi, is now the club's only ever-present outfield player this season, having completed ninety minutes in all eight fixtures to date.

Pictured, right, we see the only two outfield players to have played every minute of Alty's season before Saturday's game against Sutton United; Dan and, on the ground, Lewis Banks. But Lewis had to be withdrawn after 64 minutes leaving Dan as the last man standing in the "ever-present outfield player stakes".

Goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson is the only other man to complete all eight games this season.

Pictured, right. we see the defensive duo of Dan Sassi and Lewis Banks battling for the ball during the Sutton game, along with Alty striker James Gale who is sandwiched between them and an opponent.

ALTY WOMEN'S AWAY DRAW

Following their 6-3 home win over Macclesfield FC last Sunday, Altrincham FC Women now have an away draw in the Adobe Women's FA Cup, with a visit to Atherton LR's Crilly Park on Sunday, September 21st at 2pm.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Rumours are strengthening that two Altrincham "old boys" could soon be reunited at York City. With ALEX NEWBY already at York City's LNER Stadium, The Deck is one source suggesting that "The Minstermen are looking to secure the services of Peterborough United’s CHRIS CONN-CLARKE.

The 23-year-old hasn’t had the desired impact at the Weston Homes Stadium after moving last summer. York City are reportedly willing to pay a loan fee, substantial wages and bonuses to see off competition for Conn-Clarke".

NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Boston United "have completed the loan signing of Sheffield United midfielder Owen Hampson. The 20-year-old has joined the Pilgrims for an initial month, having enjoyed a loan spell north of the border with Dunfermline Athletic last season.

Hampson has featured extensively for the Blades in pre-season – and now moves to the Jakemans Community Stadium to further his footballing education".

At Hartlepool United "manager Simon Grayson reacts to his side’s first defeat of the season to Forest Green Rovers.

A goal from Kairo Mitchell was the difference...

The Pools boss said 'That’s our first defeat of the season after eight games. I think everybody would have taken that at the start, given that we’re a new group put together..

'There a lot of people will see that we’ve played well enough to get something out of the game...

'But the one overriding thought is that we need to be a little more ruthless at the top end of the pitch...

'I’ll give them [FGR] a lot of respect, they played with energy. They’re still undefeated, but we went toe to toe with them for large parts of the game, and that’s a real positive@".

Rochdale "confirm that Jack Griffiths has linked up with Leek Town on a dual registration basis.

The versatile player joined the Northern Premier Division side... on Saturday, making his debut.

He picked up the Man of the Match award in Leek’s 4-0 win.

The 20-year-old signed for Dale on a non-contract basis in August after featuring for the club during our pre-season campaign. He made his... league debut away at Brackley Town.

The former Stoke City man will continue to train with the club, whilst featuring for Leek".

Truro City "Boss John Askey hailed the unwavering support of Truro City’s supporters after their mammoth trip to Carlisle ended in a 3-0 defeat.

Travelling 440 miles each way to Brunton Park, the Tinners and their fans, which totalled 78 and the best in terms of numbers to visit Cumbria this season, created an English football record for the longest distance covered for a league fixture.

Despite being placed on an open terrace after a change in area for away fans earlier in the week – although Carlisle did offer free food and drink to City fans, which was a magnificent gesture – those making the trip from Cornwall were loud, proud and backed their charges from first minute until last.

And this incredible level of commitment and support was not lost on Askey, when speaking to the media at full time.

'I’ve said it before and this is the thing that makes Truro special as a club is that the supporters get behind the team no matter what'".

At managerless Solihull Moors former assistant coach James Quinn took charge of the side on Saturday as the oors defeated Boston United.

After the game he said "I’m really pleased for the boys, [it's] not easy when you're bottom of the league and there's been a big change this week [losing the manager].

"But I asked them to enjoy themselves, to go out with a smile on their face, to be brave, to be positive and to be creative; I'm never going to have a go at them for trying that, but more importanty I asked them to turn up and to be warriors first and foremost because I knew that the ball was going to come into our box a lot from throw-ins and corners.

"They [Boston Utd] are aggressive, they turn us and we dealt with it and the boys turned up, fought and battled".

Wealdstone provide "an update on the serious injury sustained by forward Daniel Nkrumah during Saturday’s National League fixture away at Scunthorpe United.

Dan suffered a shoulder dislocation in the 77th minute of the match. He was in significant pain and also experiencing difficulty breathing. Scunthorpe’s club doctor initially attended to him on the pitch, attempting to manage his pain before a shoulder relocation could be attempted.

There was a delay in removing Dan from the pitch due to a lack of feeling and blood flow in the affected area. For this reason, medical staff attempted to relocate the shoulder as quickly as possible, but only in line with safe practice...

The removal of the player from the pitch therefore took a significant amount of time.

Paramedics then provided further medical support, administering Entonox (gas and air) and 3 doses of morphine via a cannula. Once stabilised, Dan was carefully moved onto a spinal board and taken from the field of play. In the medical room at the stadium, another doctor was able to successfully relocate his shoulder...

While the exact extent of the injury will require an MRI scan to confirm, the early indication is that he will be sidelined for around four months. Dan was unable to travel back with the team due to the level of medication administered and the need for further monitoring.

We are pleased to report that Dan has now been released from hospital and is recovering at home".

Yeovil Town "announce that Somerset Council has agreed to extend the period within which the club can exercise its option to buy back the freehold of Huish Park.

The option, which was due to expire on 17th May 2026, will now run until 17th May 2028...

This development is an important milestone for Yeovil Town and its long-term ambitions. The extension strengthens the club’s position... as it works towards reuniting Huish Park with Yeovil Town Football Club.

Huish Park, including the stadium and surrounding land, is currently owned by Somerset Council and leased to the club through Yeovil Football and Athletic Club Limited and Yeovil Town Holdings Limited.

The original sale-and-leaseback agreement in 2022 was vital in safeguarding the survival of the Glovers"...

Owner and Chairman Prabhu Srinivasan said... 'Our aim is to buy back Huish Park Stadium and reunite it with the football club'".

ALTY WOMEN PROGRESS IN FA CUP

Altrincham FC Women won their FA Cup tie at home to Macclesfield 6-3 on Sunday afternoon, watched by more than 300 spectators.

After the match Brian Flynn interviewed manager Daryll Abrahams for Alty TV.

SUTTON MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Alty TV has excellent video highlights from Altrincham's 2-1 win over Sutton United on Saturday.

NEXT: BOREHAM WOOD

The top seven in the National League includes five former league clubs; the two exception are Boreham Wood and Altrincham who meet next Saturday in Hertfordshire.

The Wood are the main surprise package of this season, having just returned to the National League in 2025 from National South.

For a side notoriously parsimonious over the years, they are fourth top scorers in the division this season, with no fewer than seven goals being scored in their last two outings.

Before their relegation two years ago, The Wood enjoyed nine seasons in the top flight of National League. Only once did they score sixty or more goals in a season, hitting 64 in 2017/18. In those nine seasons they secured four top-ten finishes before, surprisingly, finishing 21st in 2024, having been sixth-place finishers just a year earlier.

However, their season in the South division in 2024/25 saw them hit the net 86 times as they secured fifth place and promotion through the play-offs.

SUTTON UNITED'S REPORT

Sutton United reported on their defeat at Altrincham on Saturday, a result which ended up "condemning Sutton United to a fifth defeat of the season.

Sutton opened the scoring with one of their first real chances of the game, as... Ashley Nadesan cutely flicked the ball home his first league goal of the campaign.

Despite taking both the lead and the momentum into the interval, Altrincham equalised just after the restart when Elliot Osborne’s cross was headed home by Jimmy Knowles...

With ten minutes to go though, Altrincham completed the turnaround when Sims superbly tipped Tom Crawford’s powerful strike onto the crossbar, though he could do nothing about the rebound with Gale finally getting the better of his opponent, tapping home the decisive goal at Moss Lane".

ALTRINCHAM v SUTTON UNITED

Match report here.

POST-MATCH MANAGERS

After the game Phil Parkinson spoke to Jonny Crowther on Alty TV.

The Altrincham manager judged that "Sutton are built for counter-attacking football... they are all big, powerful lads".

At half time "We made a couple of changes and it made all the difference" as Alty came from 0-1 down to win 2-1.

In particular, in the second half at 1-1, goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson "made an unbelievable save that galvanised us".

The manager also praised substitute Tom Crawford (right) as "our best player".

Phil also had praise for "Kahrel [Reddin, who] has been very, very good and consistent" this season.

As for Alty's lone central striker, he believed that "James Gale had four really good opportunities... the one he scored was the scruffiest!".

The Alty boss also revealed that the other scorer Jimmy Knowles, has acquired the nickname "Jimmy Goals"! He now has three for the season from match time that equates to just six full games this season.

Meanwhile, in his post-match YouTube interview, the Sutton manager Steve Morison felt that ,in the first half, "we fully deserved our lead". However, in the second half he felt that "We seem to get punished for every mistake we make"

"It hurts at the minute" he concluded and as he was interviewed on Moss Lane, someone walked by and passed an inaudible but presumably hostile comment to him which prompted him to state that he had been abused as he sat in the stands, presumably by his own club's supporters

NEXT: BOREHAM WOOD

Altrincham travel to Hertfordshire to face newly promoted Bpreham Wood next Saturday. After more than eight years in charge and four top-ten finishes in the previous six years, manager Luke Garrard resigned after their relegation but he was re-appointed in September, 2024, and guided the team back to a fifth-placed finish in the South division from where they earned promotion via the play-offs.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reviews the games in which Altrincham's former players and loanees featured on Saturday

World Cup Qualifying Round : By the time JUSTIN DONAWA came on in 66th minute, Bermuda were already three goals adrift to visitors Jamaica, the favourites to win the group, and they eventually went on to succumb 0-4.

League One : AFC Wimbledon were already a goal down at Bolton Wanderers when they were reduced to 10 men in the 50th minute. The hosts quickly trebled their advantage, and after ALI SMITH was substituted in the 88th minute his team were quickly reduced to 9 men before losing 0-3.

League Two : JOEL SENIOR (left) was an unused substitute for Bristol Rovers as they won 2-3 at Newport County.

A full shift from ALEX NEWBY was in vain as Barrow lost 1-3 at home to Swindon Town.

Former Robins trialist ZAK MILLS returned to captain Boston United after picking up an injury at Aldershot and missing 5 games, but was withdrawn after 66 minutes at 1-1. His fellow defender, CONNOR TEALE played the full game, but visitors Solihull Moors hauled themselves off the foot of the table with a 1-2 win.

Carlisle United proved too strong for Truro City, winning 3-0. The final goal was a fine effort from REGAN LINNEY, who was booked and withdrawn after 84 minutes.

Rochdale had pretty well completed their 2-0 home win over Braintree Town before LIAM HUMBLES was given a late cameo after 88 minutes.

KENNEDY DIGIE played the full game for Tamworth as they won 1-0 against visitors Eastleigh, who were without the injured JOSH LUNDSTRAM, in a clash where both sides finished with 10 men.

National North : JAMES JONES and TOM PEERS started for Chester at home to Scarborough Athletic. James was replaced by DYLAN MOTTLEY-HENRY after 51 minutes with his side trailing, and it was the substitute who rescued a point for Chester after 95 minutes.

CRAIG MAHON'S AFC Fylde romped to a 0-5 victory at Peterborough Sports. CHRIS MERRIE and LIAM BROCKBANK started, with GEORGE WILSON replacing Chris on the hour.

JORDAN HULME opened the scoring for Radcliffe, who saw off visitors Marine 4-1.

Southern Central : Hosts Leiston scored first and last, but Quorn won 3-2 with ZAK GOODSON netting twice.

Spalding United had to come from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw at Stratford Town. YUSIFU CEESAY scored their first.

Northern Ireland Premiership : SAM ROSCOE watched from the bench as Linfield comfortably saw off visitors Portadown 3-0.

Welsh Premier League : In a game of few chances, JOEL TORRANCE didn't need to work too hard for his clean sheet as Bala Town held visitors Penybont 0-0.

FA Trophy Qualifying Round : MARK LEES captained Mossley at Bridlington Town, while MASON FAWNS (left) came off the bench after 72 minutes. Unfortunately the East Yorkshire club scored the game's only goal in the very first minute.

KEVIN ELLISON captained Vauxhall Motors at Congleton Town. The hosts, with DAVID PARTON (right) in goal, won 3-1.

BYRON HARRISON and AIDY ROXBURGH were in the Nantwich Town starting lineup at Ossett United, who are managed by James Walshaw. The Dabbers won 1-3.

Sean went first and scored, and Linnets went on to win the shoot out 4-1. RYAN BROOKE was an unused substitute, while LUKE WALL wasn't involved.

KYLE BROWNHILL started for Stalybridge Celtic, but it was 57th minute substitute ELLIOT ROKKA who scored the clincher to see off visitors Trafford, who included SEAN HIGGINS and JEROME WRIGHT in their lineup, 2-0.

NWCL Premier Division : SHERIFF NJIE equalised for Cheadle Town, but visitors Atherton Laburnum Rovers struck twice in added time to win 1-3.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

The Express reports that "Scunthorpe's second National League fixture was abandoned within the same week after a seriously injured player was stretchered off and rushed to hospital. The Iron's Saturday clash against Wealdstone was halted deep into the second half following a concerning injury to Daniel Nkrumah.

The 21-year-old Wealdstone striker fell to the floor in the 85th minute following a collision inside the home side's penalty box. The referee initially added 11 minutes of stoppage time as the match reached 90 minutes, but after a further 13 minutes had elapsed, the player was still receiving treatment on the turf. He was eventually carried off to applause from supporters of both clubs".

Footnote: On Tuesday, Scunthorpe's match at Eastleigh was also abandoned, at 1-1 in that case, after two players were injured in collision.

6 September, 2025

ALTRINCHAM 2-1 SUTTON UNITED

A much improved second-half performance from Altrincham saw them come back from a 0-1 deficit to earn a well-deserved victory against their visitors who find themselves with just a single win from eight outings this season.

The "U"s took the lead after 22 minutes. The goal came after Hutchinson had punched a cross comfortably clear only for the visitors to recycle it. With Banks policing the near post, there seemed little danger but Nadesan poked the ball into the far corner of the net.

Right: Pictured during the game, Alty's two goalscorers, James Gale (left) and Jimmy Knowles.

After bringing on Crawford and Barnes at the interval, Altrincham largely dominated the second half and they equalised early on with Knowles's deft header from a recycled Osborne corner (52 mins).

The winner came after Reed had won possession and, via Knowles, Golden and Reddin, Crawford's deflected shot hit the bar but Gale was on hand to score a goal which he deserved for his tireless chasing of the ball throughout the match (80 mins).

Alty ended the day in seventh place but six teams below tham have games in hand which could take them above the Robins.

TODAY: SUTTON UNITED

Sutton United reported on the eve of today's match that "Liam Vincent is available for selection ahead of Saturday’s trip to Altrincham, having served his three-game suspension.

The wing-back was sent off in one of Sutton’s final matches of August, seeing red after a late challenge on Scunthorpe United’s Joe Rowley.

He subsequently missed out on the win over Carlisle United, along with the defeats to Rochdale and Boreham Wood either side of it, but is now back in contention as Steve Morison’s side look to bounce back in Greater Manchester.

Morison himself will serve a touchline ban on Saturday after being booked towards the end of the defeat to the Wood last time out, with it being his second yellow card of the season.

Finally, Kane Crichlow and Dillon De Silva will both be unavailable due to international duty, with Crichlow’s Bermuda facing Jamaica in the final round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers later tonight, while De Silva’s Sri Lanka clash with Maldives in the first round of the South Asia Super Cup tomorrow [Saturday] afternoon".

REMI JOINS WITTON ON LOAN

Altrincham FC press and media officer John Edwards reports that "Remi Raymond is continuing his development by following a well-worn pat... after joining Witton Albion on loan until January.

Two of his up-and-coming young Altrincham team-mates, Joel Bailey and Louie Fallon, flourished on loan with Witton last season, each of them winning a player-of-the-year award at the end of the campaign.

Now talented midfielder Remi [right] is looking forward to continuing his football education under ex-Alty centre-back Ben Harrison, as Witton look to make an impact on the Pitching In Northern Premier League West Division.

'We are delighted to be continuing our fruitful partnership with Witton Albion and our former player Ben Harrison,' said Robins boss Phil Parkinson. 'We can all see the development Joel Bailey has gone through after his time with them last season, and he is now entering the next phase of his progression on loan at Bamber Bridge.

Footnote: Remi has been named in the first-team matchday squad for Altrincham in every game this season so far. He has made two brief appearances from the bench; away at Rochdale and at home to Solihull Moors

ALTY OLD BOYS & LOANEES

Phil Jordan reports that in the FA Trophy Qualifying Round, Bootle had TONY THOMPSON and TOM HANNIGAN in their starting XI, but were missing DIOR ANGUS for tonight's home tie against Witton Albion. The visitors started JOEL BEMBO-LETA and JAMES LAWRIE, while REMI RAYMOND was on the bench just a few hours after joining on loan from Alty, and they went through to the next round, winning 2-3.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Forest Green Rovers " welcome forward Adriel Walker to the club on a month-long youth loan deal from Stoke City.

The 19-year-old joined the Potters in February 2025 following a nine-year spell with West Bromwich Albion...

The Potters began their Premier League 2 campaign last month with Walker netting twice in their opening three matches...

On the signing, Manager Robbie Savage said: 'Adriel is an exciting forward who has started the season in fine form.

'He’s quick, dynamic, and has an eye for goal. We're a club who love giving opportunities to young players and, given a couple of recent injuries in the forward line, it was important that we were active in getting somebody with quality to add to the ranks.'”

Aldershot Town "confirm that, following a successful appeal, the red card shown to Marcus Dewhurst on Wednesday night has been overturned and his suspension rescinded".

Footnote: The keeper was dismissed after 39 minutes of the Shots' game at Truro.

Truro City "defender Tylor Love-Holmes has joined Southern League side Plymouth Parkway on loan.

The 20-year-old will remain at Bolitho Park until January 1, 2026, with no recall option available for the first 28 days.

Love-Holmes has made two National League substitute appearances for City so far this term in home matches against York City and Southend United.

He has also featured in Truro’s solitary National League Cup outing against Southampton, where the former Saltash man enjoyed a mixed evening by scoring at both ends.

Last term, Love-Holmes had a similar spell at Parkway, which was cut short by Truro in early March, as he would eventually make 20 National League South appearances as City were crowned league champions".

Gateshead "confirm the signing of Curtis Edwards until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The central midfielder joins... after recently departing EFL2 side Notts County where he made 18 appearances for after joining ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

A graduate of Middlesbrough academy as a youngster, the 31 year-old spent seven years playing in Sweden....before joining [a] Norwegian outfit for a further two years.

Edwards returned to England with Woking midway through the 2023/24 season making 17 appearances".

POST-MATCH PARKY

Brian Flynn interviewed Phil Parkinson after the game at Gateshead.

"In the first half, we executed the game plan perfectly" said the Altrincham manager after the win at The International Stadium.

He praised the "class and composure" from Tylor Golden for his goal.

As for the opposition, in the "second half they changed shape, which we were ready for", he added.

However, he was critical of the failure to convert the two late chances in added time.

Asked about loanee keeper Hutchinson, the Alty manager said "He's not cost us in any of our games" and he went on to praise the quality of the ball that he distributed to get the second goal-move started .

There was also praise for wingers Kahrel Reddin and Luke Weaver in terms of how they have developed this season.

Alty TV has video highlights of the game.

NEXT: SUTTON UNITED

Altrincham play a lunchtime (12.30pm) National League game at home to Sutton United on Saturday.

The "U"s finished twelfth last season, their first back in the National League after three seasons in the EFL. After a commendable eighth-placed finish in their first season in the EFL2, they dropped to 14th then 23rd in successive seasons.

This season they have struggled, with just one victory from their seven games to date.

Their game this Wednesday was a disappointing home defeat. Having led 2-1 they sank to 2-4 against newly promoted Boreham Wood before clawing back a consolation goal in added time to end the game defeated 3-4..

However, their only win was a commendable 2-1 victory at Gander Green Lane over Carlisle United.

Sutton United First Team Coach, Jon Meeney, "touched on the importance of not feeling sorry after Sutton lost 4-3 against Boreham Wood.

The U’s managed to score three extremely good goals against the Wood and took the lead at the end of the first half, but ultimately fell short...

'It was a basketball game, end to end, that’s the game they [Boreham Wood] wanted and ultimately we fell into that trap' said Meeney...

The manner in which Sutton lost will have been especially disappointing for Meeney as well as Head Coach, Steve Morison, who were unable to build on last Saturday’s win over Carlisle United...

Sutton now have the chance to recover quickly from defeat against the Wood, with a lunchtime trip to Altrincham up next as they look to bounce back and secure the elusive second win of the campaign...

'We can’t feel sorry for ourselves, we’ve got to make sure we man up, we mature and then we travel on Friday, we’ll train on the way up and then we’ve just got to be the best version on Saturday and get this out of our system.'”

ALTY OLD BOYS

BBC Sport Cumbria reports that "We caught up with Carlisle United head coach Mark Hughes for his thoughts on their 1-0 win at Brackley Town - and links with Peterborough United playmaker CHRIS CONN-CLARKE who was understood to be at this evening’s game".

THROUGH THE YEARS: 6 September

All of Alty's last six games on Saturday's date, 6 September, when Sutton United visit the JDS, have been home matches.

Yet, as Howard Watts and Mike Garnett's Through the Years records confirm, they have won just one of those fixtures over a 31-year period.

That win was a 2-1 victory over Dartford in 2014.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Truro City "were forced to settle for a point after nine man Aldershot Town snatched a stoppage-time equaliser from the penalty spot to seal a 2-2 draw at the TCS, writes Tom Howe.

The Tinners, who had looked on course for back-to-back victories, turned the game on its head with second half goals from Ryan Law and Tyler Harvey cancelling out Kwame Thomas’ opener, which came seconds before the break.

However, despite playing over 50 minutes with ten men, after goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst was adjudged to have denied a goal scoring opportunity, and later nine after Cameron Hargreaves was shown a quick fire double yellow, the Shots kept plugging away.

They eventually pegged City back, deep into added time, when James Henry scored from 12 yards to ensure the spoils were shared in front of 2,310 supporters, 176 of which had travelled from Hampshire.

Cumberland's News and Star reports that "Brackley Town boss Gavin Cowan admitted Carlisle United’s 'brilliant' goal cost his side a point he felt they deserved.

The Saints manager felt his side matched the Blues for long spells on Wednesday night.

But Cowan accepted the quality of Regan Linney’s 79th minute goal was the difference as Mark Hughes side won the National League encounter 1-0...

Said Cowan... 'It’s just a couple of moments of brilliance that decide the game. I thought it was going to peter out into a draw which probably would have been the right result...

'There was a little lapse in concentration, and you can’t argue the fact that the lad turns the ball over, it’s an incredible pass [by Jack Ellis] and a fantastic touch and brilliant finish [by Linney].

'That’s how quickly it can happen at this level.. We were very much in the game and deserved a draw '".

GATESHEAD 0-2 ALTRINCHAM

It was three points, a clean sheet and a rise of eight places in the National League for Altrincham after their midweek trip to Tyneside. They finished the evening tenth but, had they lost, they would have been 20th!

An excellent, dominant first half from Altrincham saw them deservedly lead 2-0 at the interval, and it could have been more. The Heed failed totally to pose any threat and lost the corner count 1-7, their only flag-kick being needlessly given away by Altrincham in added time.

Alty's goalscorers were their full-backs, Lewis Banks (left) and Tylor Golden (right)

Altrincham took the lead in the 12th minute from their fourth corner of the match. Keaton Ward's one-two with Kahrel Reddin saw the latter's cross from the right volleyed home by Lewis Banks.

Alty dominated possesion but the second goal did not arrive till the 35th minute when Tylor Golden surged up the left and received the ball back from Knowles before cutting inside, once he had got into the left of the box. From there the Alty left-back slotted a low shot into the far corner with his right foot.

The second half saw Altrincham comfortably retain their lead and, indeed, go close to adding to their lead, especially in the closing stages after Gateshead had had Pani sent off for a second yellow card offence on James Gale.

Match report here.

NEXT: SUTTON UNITED

Altrincham have their third lunchtime fixture in their first eight games of the 2025-26 season when, to accommodate streaming by DAZN, they entertain Sutton United for a 12.30pm kick off on Saturday.

The "U"s supporters will have to rise early to get to Moss Lane if they intend to watch the match in person but one can expect many of them to prefer the convenience of staying at home, having a lie-in and streaming the game rather than setting their alarms in time to hear the dawn chorus.

Sutton lost on Wednesday, 3-4 at home to Boreham Wood and they now have the joint second-worst defence in the division, along with Aldershot Town. The only team to have conceded more goals were the team Alty beat this midweek, Gateshead.

PUTTING ALTY ON THE MAP

Locally based supporters will be familiar with the "doodle map" mural of Altrincham, drawn by Dave Draws with imaginative input from local schoolchildren, which has featured in George Street in the town centre since last October.

However, Alty exiles may not have seen the artwork (a section of which is shown above), which includes a representation of Altrincham's J. Davidson Stadium, as shown above.

Further information about the map is provided by the Sale & Altrincham Messenger.

Footnote: Coincidentally, on a similar cartographical theme, Altrincham's local top rugby union club, Sale Sharks, has just issued a new playing kit which features an 1861 map of the locality on its sides.

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan reports on the National League games on Wednesday in which REGAN LINNEY notched his 6th goal of the season, and it was enough for Carlisle United to win at Brackley Town. The hosts were without JUSTIN DONAWA, who is in the Bermuda squad for the World Cup qualifying matches coming up.

CONNOR TEALE (left) played the whole of Boston United's 1-1 draw at Hartlepool United.

JEFF KING opened the scoring for Boreham Wood, but they were 2-1 down to hosts Sutton United when he was substituted after 58 minutes. However, they fought back to win 3-4.

In other news, Carlisle United report that "REGAN LINNEY has been nominated for the Enterprise National League Player of the Month award for August.

The forward has netted five goals for the Blues in his first six competitive appearances, which included a hat-trick in United's 5-0 win over Braintree Town".

About Manchester tells us hat Manchester United’s oldest living player, TOMMY HERON, [pictured, right] was given the VIP treatment at Old Trafford this weekend, culminating in an extraordinary meeting with the club’s newest talisman, Benjamin Šeško.

Signing with Manchester United in 1958, the 89 year old... made three appearances for the Red Devils just after the tragic Munich Air Disaster".

Footnote: Terry Rowley's "Legends" biography of Tommy confirms that he signed for Alty in June 1966 and in 1966-67, he played 40 league games, plua one each in the FA Cup and League Cup, four appearances in the Cheshire Senior Cup and one further appearance in the North West Floodlit League.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Solihull Moors, who are bottom of the National League and yet to win a game this season, have announced "that Matt Taylor has left the club with immediate effect.

We would like to place on record our thanks to Matt for his commitment to the club and we wish him every success in his future endeavours.

Terry Connor and Elliot Minto have also left and again we thank them for their time at the club.

The search for a new manager begins immediately, but we are pleased to welcome back James Quinn who will take the team on Saturday for the game at Boston.

We encourage all supporters to get behind Quinny and the team at Boston and beyond".

Hampshire's Daily Echo reports that "Eastleigh defender Archie Harris was taken to hospital for further checks following a collision with Scunthorpe’s Jean Belehouan in added time at the end of Tuesday night’s National League match, which was eventually abandoned.

The game at Silverlake Stadium was level at 1-1 after Eastleigh had equalised in the first minute of stoppage time when Harvey Saunders bundled home from Paul McCallum’s header across goal, cancelling out Declan Howe’s late strike for the visitors.

Play, though, was then initially paused in the seventh minute of added time after a collision between Harris and Scunthorpe defender Belehouan, with both men receiving medical treatment from paramedics on the pitch.

Flags were used to obscure the view of the supporters in the ground as the treatment was administered, and the referee told the rest of the players to go to the changing rooms, before the match was subsequently abandoned...

Scunthorpe later said defender Belehouan, who sat up before being transferred on to a wheelchair and taken from the field of play, had... travelled back on his team's coach, Eastleigh then confirmed defender Harris, on a season-long loan from AFC Bournemouth, had been admitted to hospital and was 'conscious and talking'.

Harris has now been discharged from hospital...

Scunthorpe manager Andy Butler [said], 'I thought it was a bit of a reckless challenge, but I’m not here to berate the player because obviously he’s got a serious injury and I wish him all the best.'”

Boreham Wood "announce the signing of talented forward Lewis Richardson, who joins the Wood on a permanent basis following his summer departure from... Burnley.

The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year contract...

Richardson... made history in February of 2021 when he became the Clarets’ youngest-ever Premier League debutant...

He enjoyed spells with Grimsby Town... and more recently with fellow National League side York City, netting four in 13 National League appearances."

ALTY OLD BOYS

Phil Jordan informs us that on Tuesday in the Professional Development League, CHRIS CONN-CLARKE played the full game for Peterborough United U21 as they were beaten 1-4 by visitors Cardiff City U21.

EFL Trophy : At 2-0, Notts County withdrew SONNY ALJOFREE at Lincoln City. However, the Imps struck again to win 3-0.

TOBY MULLARKEY (left) returned to the Fleetwood Town starting lineup, as HARRISON HOLGATE was rested. Unfortunately, he picked up a yellow card, but after 90 minutes the game ended 2-2 after visitors Accrington Stanley, despite having more chances than their hosts, squandered the two-goal lead they'd built by the 32nd minute despite missing an early penalty.

Fleetwood won the shootout out 5-4, (there were 14 kicks!).

Plymouth Argyle didn't include new loan signing OWEN DALE (right), but still saw off the challenge of visitors Cheltenham Town, who withdrew JAKE BICKERSTAFF after 73 minutes, winning 2-0.

KEVIN BERKOE was substituted by Salford City after 77 minutes as they won 0-2 at Wigan Athletic.

Grimsby Town, despite going down to 10 men after 26 minutes, led at the break at Bradford City. Although JUSTIN AMALUZOR played the full game, they lost 1-2, with the winner coming in the 95th minute.

With the game level at Bromley, MARCUS DINANGA came off the bench after 62 minutes against Crystal Palace U21, and 7 minutes later he put his side ahead. However it was 3-3 at full time, and Marcus scored his penalty as Bromley won the shootout 4-3.

National League : KENNEDY DIGIE played the full game for Tamworth, who won 1-2 at Braintree Town.

JOE NUTTALL (right) came off the Morecambe bench after 82 minutes, but Forest Green Rovers had already come from behind by then and wrapped up a 1-3 win.

KYLE FERGUSON lasted 77 minutes as one goal proved enough for Yeovil Town to win at Solihull Moors. MATT GOULD was in his usual place on the Glovers' bench.

National North : AFC Fylde started CHRIS MERRIE at home to Chesterfield, and, when he was withdrawn after 77 minutes as part of a triple substitution, both GEORGE WILSON and LIAM BROCKBANK were among the replacements.

At that stage CRAIG MAHON'S old club had come from behind to lead 1-2, but Liam provided the cross that set up the Coasters' 82nd minute equaliser, the game ending 2-2.

JAMES JONES and TOM PEERS (substituted after 84 minutes) both started for Chester, while DYLAN MOTTLEY-HENRY was a 77th minute substitute.

Alfreton Town welcomed back LEWIS SALMON at Oxford City, and HARRY PERRITT (left) also started. Lewis went off after 55 minutes, by which time City were 3 goals to the good, and he was replaced by OWEN GERMAN. It wasn't their night though, and they lost 5-0.

National South : Although his team had been down to 10 men for over an hour, and were trailing, having led after just 2 minutes, ASHLEY HEMMINGS converted an 86th minute penalty for Dagenham & Redbridge to earn a 2-2 draw at Dover Athletic.

FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round Replays : TONY THOMPSON and TOM HANNIGAN both started for Bootle at home against Silsden, but it was substitute DIOR ANGUS whose 83rd minute strike put them 4-1 ahead. Silsden reduced the arrears in added time. Bootle will now entertain Darlington.

Nantwich Town had both BYRON HARRISON and AIDY ROXBURGH (left) in their starting lineup, and were not given an easy ride by visitors Avro, finally earning a home tie with Trafford with a 2-0 win, the goals coming after 89 and 91 minutes.

# A goal on the hour from JACK REDSHAW at Prescot Cables earned Hyde United a home tie against Whitby Town .

Witton Albion hit 3 goals without reply at Shildon, where they were only able to name 4 substitutes with MAX HARROP not involved. JOEL BEMBO-LETA and JAMES LAWRIE (right) started, while BEN HARRISON joined the fray after 56 minutes. It was James who scored the 3rd goal to earn Albion and even longer trip to Morpeth Town.

Other news: Swansea City report that "JOSH GINNELLY has left the club after the parties reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.

ENTERPRISE NATIONAL LEAGUE NEWS

Scunthorpe United "is inviting supporters, stakeholders, and the wider community to take part in an open consultation regarding a potential update to the club’s crest.

The Iron’s current crest, which has represented the club since 1994, has become an iconic part of Scunthorpe United’s identity. However, the club recognises the importance of ensuring that its visual identity reflects both its proud history and its ambitions for the future, and the positivity that returning to a variation of the Unity crest for last season’s anniversary campaign yielded.

The consultation process, should the first phase result in a 'yes', will give fans the opportunity to share their views on the current crest, explore alternative design concepts, and contribute to shaping the visual identity of Scunthorpe United moving forward.

In deriving [?] the Voice of the Fans group, one of the key conversations in the first meeting was around the club crest and whether there would be appetite to undergo a rebrand...

Chair and co-owner Michelle Harness said 'Our crest is more than just a logo, it’s a symbol of who we are as a football club. We want to ensure that it reflects both our heritage and the values we carry into the future...

Initially, we are rolling out a simple Google Form to gauge support interest in permanently changing the club’s crest away from its current form. Should this vote pass through, supporters will then be able to participate through a series of surveys and focus groups...

'Changing a badge permanently requires the club to follow a process as set out by the Football Association in order to identify that the change is wanted by its supporters. Any voted change is likely to be in effect from the 2027-28 season, and will not be completed in time for the 2026-27 campaign, although a phased process will be executed in order to rebrand across the whole club@".

Aldershot Town "confirm that Keane Anderson has joined Torquay United on loan for a month.

The midfielder has made three appearances for the Shots so far this season and will link up with the Enterprise National League South side...

Tommy Widdrington said 'With players coming back from injury and suspension, we felt that this was a great opportunity for him to get some game time at a brilliant football club and a very competitive level.'”

Before they meet Altrincham on Saturday, Sutton United previewed their midweek opponents Boreham Wood who "bounced straight back to the fifth tier with a 1-0 victory over Maidstone United in the National League South Play-Off final..

Club legend Luke Garrard returned to the dugout at Meadow Park to replace Ross Jenkins in September 2024, having departed the Wood at the end of the previous season, and guided them back to the National League alongside a reliable group of players consisting of captain and Player-Assistant Manager Jack Payne, goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore and long-serving players Femi Ilesanmi, Cameron Coxe, Chris Bush and Érico Sousa.

Having kept the bulk of their quality from their relegation season, including Clayden, Kwesi Appiah, Tom Whelan and Charlie O’Connell, the Wood continued to bolster their ranks throughout the campaign with the likes of Abdul Abdulmalik, Jon Benton, Callum Reynolds, Josef Yarney and Matt Rush joining the club...

Garrard has since been tasked with building a side capable of once again maintaining their National League status and pushing on, with key men Appiah and Whelan both departing alongside the long-serving Tyrone Marsh, while David Agbontohoma, Josh Hare, Mo Sagaf, Jayden Richardson and Yarney have all joined them in the departure lounge.

The Wood have brought in a host of quality this summer though, making Junior Dixon’s loan move from Birmingham City permanent, and following that up with the additions of Tom White (Morecambe), Luke Norris (Tranmere Rovers), Aaron Henry (Charlton Athletic), Joe Newton (Solihull Moors) and Jeff King on loan (York City)...

They have... gone unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions".

'"Neal [Ardley]’s relationship, having worked with Josh at Solihull, was pivotal in helping to secure the move and for Josh to choose us over other interested clubs'.”

Having secured their first win at the weekend, Woking "announce the signing of Josh Kelly.

Kelly, 26, joins on a season-long loan from Sky Bet League One side AFC Wimbledon.

A Maidenhead United academy graduate, Kelly burst onto the non-league scene when he scored 39 goals in 2017-18 for Walton Casuals...

Unsurprisingly, Alan Devonshire embedded him into the Magpies’ senior side, with over 130 appearances for the club...

This form attracted a whole host of clubs, with Solihull Moors the victors...

AFC Wimbledon paid an undisclosed fee for his services, where he has made 67 appearances, including 39 in the league last season...

Director of Football Jody Brown is delighted to get a top target over the line, adding, 'All summer we’ve been patient with our recruitment, some may suggest too patient - but we got there in the end with Josh. He, like Olly Sanderson, was on our original list of 4/5 forwards, but we had to wait our turn as he’s a League One player....

From Truro City "Defender Tom Harrison has joined Enterprise National League South side Chippenham Town on a month’s loan.

The 24-year-old, who came through the ranks at Bristol City, joined the Tinners in 2023 from then National League outfit Oxford City... <> Last term, the former Robin was integral as Truro defied pre-season predictions of relegation to win the National League South title. ..

Harrison suffered a season-ending knee injury in... late February.

After successful surgery and a gruelling recovery programme, Harrison is now back in full training and will join Chippenham on loan for the second time in his career, to further his match fitness".

ALTY PLAYERS IN SUSPENSE

After just six league fixtures it may sound premature to be worrying about player suspensions but Altrincham already have one player who has collected four cautions and another two players sitting on three bookings.

Left to right: James Gale, Sam Reed and Dan Sassi.

The player with four cards is striker James Gale whose cautions have arrived at a rate of one for every 95 minutes of his time on the pitch.

The duo on three cards are both defenders; left-back Sam Reed and centre-back Dan Sassi. Reed's cards have been picked up at one every 117 minutes, whilst Sassi's have come at one card for every 180 minutes of playing time.

All three of the players in question are new to Altrincham this season, Gale and Reed being summer signings and Sassi a new loanee from the start of this campaign.

With a total of 21 yellow cards across the squad from six matches this season, the cautions are 40% up on this stage last season when 15 yellows had been collected. But last season had also seen a red card by this stage, a fate avoided by Alty's players so far this season.

IF IT'S ALTY, CHECK YOUR DIARY

On Wednesday evening, Altrincham visit Gateshead for an Enterprise National League fixture before entertaining Sutton United next Saturday.

That Saturday lunchtime game will be the club's eighth fixture of the Enterprise National League season.

But, by then, Altrincham will have kicked off at five different times on four different days of the week. For those who like to plan their Altrincham match attendance in advance, a clock and a diary or calendar have been essential equipment this season.

By Saturday, Altrincham's eight games will have taken place at the following times, in the following places and on the following days...

  1. Saturday, 3pm: 2 games, ALDERSHOT TOWN (at home) and Eastleigh (away)
  2. Saturday, 12.30pm: 3 games, Rochdale (away), Morecambe (away), SUTTON UNITED (home)
  3. Monday, 3pm: 1 game, SOLIHULL MOORS (home)
  4. Tuesday, 7.45pm: 1 game, HARTLEPOOL UNITED (home)
  5. Wednesday, 7.45pm: 1 game, Gateshead (away)

So, from just eight fixtures, on only one occasion this season has a match venue (home or away) and kick-off time been repeated; there have been two away games kicking off at 12.30pm, (at Rochdale and Morecambe). Altrincham's two wins this season have both been home games kicking off at 3pm, versus Aldershot Town on a Saturday and Solihull Moors on a Monday.

NEXT: GATESHEAD

Altrincham face Gateshead at the International Stadium on Wednesday evening (7.45pm).

The Heed lie seventh in the league with ten points earned from three wins and a draw, the last being a 3-3 home draw with Aldershot Town. They actually have a worse goal difference (-3) than 16th placed Altrincham (-2).

Like Alty they have a young team and they also had a summer of upheaval, losing many players from the last campaign.

With three goals apiece, Kain Adom and Kyle Hurst have scored more than a half of the team's eleven goals recorded this season.

Three players have started all six matches so far. They are defenders Kenton Richardson and Connor Pani and midfielder Harry Chapman; only Richardson has played every minute of the season to date.

Alty have four players who have played every minute this season; Lewis Banks, Tom Crawford, Luke Hutchinson and Dan Sassi.

As we noted recently, it has been less then seven months since Altrincham last visited Tyneside, but last Saturday the Robins fielded just three of the same starters from that game in February. They were Lewis Banks, Tom Crawford and Tylor Golden.

However, Gateshead have undergone even more upheaval than Altrincham as not a single starter for them last Saturday against Aldershot Town had been a starter in that game against Alty as recently as February. Indeed, only Kain Adom and Oli Thompson, both of whom were on the bench back then, were in the Heed squad last Saturday, with Adom the only starter against The Shots.

Head of Football Operations, Marc Tierney added 'We are delighted to finally secure one of our top targets in Alex Gilliead. He was identified early in the window... He’s worked under Mark before, but just as crucially, he fits the ethos of Carlisle United'".

Aldershot Town are "delighted to confirm the signing of promising Brighton & Hove Albion defender, Charlie Penman, on a season-long loan!

The 19-year-old joined The Seagulls from Blackpool in 2021... Penman has trained with Brighton’s first-team on multiple occasions... and was even listed as one of The Guardian’s 20 best talents at Premier League Clubs back in 2022...

Tommy Widdrington said 'Charlie’s a lad that we’ve looked at before but not had the opportunity to sign. He played at the EBB Stadium in our National League Cup clash with Brighton earlier this season and impressed us...

'He’s a left-sided defender which is an area in which we’ve had lots of injuries'".

NEXT: GATESHEAD

Wednesday evening sees Altrincham visit the International Stadium to take on Gateshead. Despite a summer of upheaval with multiple departures, including that of manager Carl Magnay, The Heed have made a good start with a young side and go into the match against the Robins occupying a play-off place, seventh.

They could have been even higher, had Aldershot Town not pegged them back to secure a 3-3 draw in the North East on Saturday.

Aldershot Town report that just 722 fans including 111 from the Hampshire club witnessed a 3-3 draw.

Early on "Kyle Hurst found himself in loads of space down the left and kept his composure after advancing 20-yards to slot it past Dewhurst and in off the inside of the post.

The game was setting up to see Aldershot with the majority of possession and Gateshead ready to pounce on the counter... The Shots found their equaliser as Kwame Thomas was in the perfect place to get another goal from a yard out!...

And another 10 minutes later, the Shots had turned the game around and taken the lead. Ryan Hill’s ball across the edge of the Gateshead box travelled all the way across and was perfect for Cameron Hargreaves to run onto and fire a deflected effort past Tiernan Brooks...

A crazy minute on the hour mark saw the game turn on its head for a second time as the home side’s counter attacks were too much for the Shots. With the ball caught in Jed Meerholz’s feet on the edge of his box, Harry Chapman pounced and threaded Kyle Hurst in for his second of the game and his side’s equaliser.

And from kick-off, Gateshead scored again to turn the game around in barely a minute... Fenton John’s ball put Kyle Hurst through on goal. In search of his hat-trick, he took the shot on himself which was well saved by Dewhurst but only to the feet of Harry Chapman who found the back of the net...

The Shots did find their equaliser. Josh Barrett rattled the post with a free-kick from the edge of the box and the rebound fell to Hady Ghandour who made no mistake".

EASTLEIGH v ALTY REPORT

Eastleigh report that "Despite going into half-time a goal down the Spitfires won the game 2-1 thanks to super-sub and new signing Harvey Saunders.

Harvey Saunders, who was announced last night and started the game on the bench, was the difference maker for Kelvin Davis’s super Spitfires in their 2-1 victory...

The second half of football was completely different to the first as Eastleigh found themselves behind and soaking up lots of pressure; however, the new man provided a goal and an assist for the Spitfires. The defence stayed resolute and unlike the first-half Nick Townsend had little to do.

Davis reintroduced Zavier Massiah-Edwards, back from the injury that kept him out against Forest Green Rovers last week. The Watford loanee replaced Jake Taylor in the starting XI, with Jordan Cousins once again taking the captain’s armband. With Luis Fernandez sidelined through injury, Louie Holzman joined Temi Eweka and Aaron Pierre in a back three...

The Robins continued to pile on the pressure and repeatedly tested Nick Townsend, who was in inspired form. The Spitfires goalkeeper produced a superb double save — first parrying Lewis Banks’s strike from distance before reacting sharply to deny Kahrel Reddin from close range.

Just before the interval, Altrincham went agonisingly close again. Gale’s header was cleared off the line, and... the hosts struck the woodwork on the stroke of half-time.

At the break, Kelvin Davis introduced new signing Harvey Saunders in place of Massiah-Edwards, and the forward wasted no time making his mark... Saunders left his marker behind and delivered a pinpoint cross that Kieron Evans finished superbly to bring the Spitfires level.

Just two minutes later.. it was Aaron Blair who did the hard work down the left, whipping in a fine delivery into the box. Saunders met it perfectly with a looping header that sailed over goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson... putting Eastleigh 2-1 ahead.

With just two minutes to go Altrincham registered their first shot on target of the second half when they broke well down the right hand side but Townsend saved brilliantly".

Phil Jordan reports that in Australia's NPL Victoria, CONNOR HAMPSON scored after 68 minutes for Oakleigh Cannons in their play-off quarter final but, unfortunately Preston Lions had already scored twice in the first half, and Cannons, despite dominating the game, were unable to rescue the match.

Lions came into the game as the form side, having won all of their final 6 games in the regulation season after Cannons thrashed them 4-0 at the end of June.

French Ligue 1 : It was an eventful match in Monaco on Sunday afternoon. The hosts led early, and went in at 1-0 after Strasbourg had a goal disallowed, and then added a second within 3 minutes of the restart. However Strasbourg fought back, and scored twice in 3 minutes to level things up.

It was 6 minutes into added time when former Liverpool striker Takumi Minamino restored Monaco's lead and Strasbourg's faint hopes of a late fightback evaporated when they were reduced to 10 men 3 minutes later. MAXI OYEDELE could only watch from the Strasbourg bench as his team lost 3-2.

The Daily Echo reports that "Harvey Saunders was 'delighted' following his dream Eastleigh debut, as they beat Altrincham 2-1 on Saturday.

Saunders, who joined on loan from Tranmere on Friday, came on as a half-time sub and immediately set up an equaliser for Kieron Evans.

Three minutes later the 28 year old striker, who has also played for Fleetwood Town and Bristol Rovers, headed home Aaron Blair’s cross for the winner.

'I'm delighted. I wanted to come and enjoy my football, and I definitely enjoyed that one today. The move was quite rushed, I think.

'My agent came to us and explained what was happening and who was interested. I got to speak to the gaffer and, as soon as I heard what he had to say, I thought I'd have to jump at it'...

On Saunders's impact on his debut, Eastleigh assistant Danny Butterfield said 'You can't ask for more than that, but we also have to mention Zav (Massiah-Edwards). He ran his socks off in the first half with no joy. Harvey came on and showed his attributes immediately. For debuts, it's what dreams are made of'".

Sutton United boss "Steve Morison admitted that nothing changes for himself and his squad after picking up their first win of the season... as well as picking up their first win at home since January, with goals from Edon Pruti and David Ogbonna putting relegated side Carlisle United to the sword.

It was a performance of worthy of the victory, with a monstrous display at the back blending with a threatening attack...

'Yeah, it feels amazing, they deserved that' he said. 'To a man, I’ve questioned them all week... 'We should have been out of sight of that game, absolutely out of sight... It gives us hopefully something to build on and start our season...

'It’s a good win against a good team and I thought we more than matched them'", he concluded.

Truro City "have a maiden National League victory after a commanding 3-0 home triumph over Boston United, writes Tom Howe.

Rekeil Pyke scored his first Tinners goal on the stroke of half-time, in what was just reward for City’s dominance, before captain Tyler Harvey doubled the lead from the penalty spot early in the second stanza.

Will Dean followed up... with a decisive third, lashing home from the edge of the box...

Boston were restricted to half chances throughout...

Stone’s City bow was the only change to John Askey’s starting XI following the 2-1 reverse in Hertfordshire earlier in the week, as Dan Lavercombe reverted to a place on the bench...

The only blot in an otherwise fine looking City copybook was a second-half injury to Taylor, who limped off to be replaced by ex-Boston midfielder Hasani".
