REPORT

On a damp afternoon at Flixton, Fylde kicked off and had slightly the better of the opening stages. But from about ten minutes into the game, Altrincham improved, although their first meaningful shot, by Hussain, went comfortably wide (12 mins).

Hussain also won the match's first corner, after 16 minutes. This was followed by an impressive run by Richardson, up the inside-left channel, and his shot had to be beaten out by the Fylde keeper for another corner (18 mins).

However, Alty's improvement was undone when a Hall back pass, from right of their own goal, fell short and the Fylde no.7 beat the advancing keeper Terry to the ball. The ball was played inside to the Fylde no.9, Maroilia, who drove the ball into the vacated net to give the Coasters the lead (21 mins).

The goal lifted Fylde and Altrincham suffered a further disruption when Grogan had to replace the injured Richardson (27 mins). Scanlan now moved to the lone striker role, with Grogan in midfield.

Both O'Hara and the visitors' no.7 were booked for some mutual pushing and shoving as they awaited the taking of a Fylde freekick (33 mins). Altrincham were then grateful to a good save by keeper Terry, when the Fylde no.2 got through the Altrincham defence to fire in a shot (39 mins).

Fylde then just cleared the bar with a freekick from 40 yards by their number ten. They followed this up with a corner and a freekick before the half ended, just after Alty's Okunowu had been booked for kicking the ball away after a freekick had been awarded.

At the break Alty brought on Curtis Miller for Hussain. Seven minutes into the half Grogan fired narrowly wide before another underhit back pass, this time by Grogan, almost presented Fylde with a second goal but Terry did well to block the ball (54 mins).

A fine run by Fylde's no.8 got him into the box and his low cross was turned into the net at the back post but the effort was ruled out for offside (55 mins). Fylde's no.11 now picked up a yellow card for a foul on O'Hara before the visitors' no.6 had a shot saved by Terry. At the other end, Grogan got in a good shot that just cleared the bar (61 mins).

On 65 minutes Fylde made a double change as numbers 15 and 16 replaced nos 6 and 8.

The sides now traded a corner apiece as play went from end to end. Alty survived when Terry had to come out to block an opponent's advamce and the ball rebounded past him before being cleared but an Alty freekick was awarded in any case (75 mins).

Injury then obliged Bracegirdle to give way to Lewens for Altrincham (79 mins) and, two minutes later, the visitors introduced their no.12 for no.4 (87 mins). Play was already into the fourth added minute when Alty brought on their Barnatt and, a minute later, Scanlan won his team a corner on the right.

Miller's corner was met by a stoooping header by O'Hara which found the back of the net to level the scores (90+5 mins). Surprisingly, the game continued into a seventh added minute before the referee finally concluded proceedings.
