CREWE (0) 1

Hallmark Security Cheshire Football League match
played on Saturday, 13 May 2017, at 3.30pm

SUMMARY

A win would have secured fourth place in this final match of the season, which was watched by the new first-team management duo of Phil Parkinson and Neil Sorvel. But after Altrincham had taken a deserved lead through Faux, they conceded a second half equalizer when goalkeeper Jones did well to stop a close-range header from the visitors' centre-back, but the same opponent netted the loose ball. As a result, Alty finished a very respectable sixth.

REPORT

The visitors won the game's first corner and they also had the best chance of the early stages as a long ball got their no.9 free but the ball ran off his chest to keeper Jones (12 mins).

Alty's best efforts at this stage were a Milne volley which cleared the bar and a Cain shot which was blocked.

Though Altrincham were having a lot of possession, Crewe's no.9 had another chance after 21 minutes when an excellent long ball gave him an opening but he fired over the bar. Then following a freekick the visitors' got in a header which just cleared the bar.

However, it was Altrincham who took a 33rd minute lead when Faux, who had impressed on the right wing, converted a ball from the left with a fine shot, from right of goal which gave the Crewe keeper no chance.

Half-Time: ALTRINCHAM RESERVES 1 CREWE 0

Altrincham won two early corners after the interval but they did not seriously test the Crewe keeper till the 56th minute when a Davis volley forced a save.

However, when the visitors' number nine again got free of the Alty defence, he fired over the bar (55 mins). At the other end, Davis put in a well executed volley but the keeper saved it.

Crewe then had a good spell, winning two corners, before Altrincham had a goal disallowed for a foul on the Crewe keeper. But the visitors then played in an excellent freekick which their number five met with a fine header. Jones saved the point-blank effort impressively but the loose ball ran to the Crewe centre-back who netted to level the scores (69 mins).

Soon afterwards a well-struck Milne shot was diverted by a defender's header forcing his keeper to make a good save (72 mins).

Alty won a couple of corners in the closing stages but were unable to get the goal which would have secured three points and a fourth-place finish in the league.
